Lift the mat from the platter. Lift the platter off the spindle - it just pulls off upwards. Wrap the belt around the sub-platter underneath. If the belt is not stretched, it should stay there by friction as you replace the platter onto the spindle. Rotate the platter by hand until the motor pulley appears through the large hole on the front left hand side, and then gently pull the belt over the pulley, taking care not to twist it as you do so. Replace mat.

Cannot get the platter cover off to change the belt on a l-a21 turn table . how do i do this?

Unplug from the mains power & the amplifier phono socket
To remove the plater: first remove the lid - then after securing the arm, FLIP the whole unit over onto the plater (perhaps resting it on your lap) then remove the all the black screws and the brass ones holding the rubber feet in place.
Inside you will find a tube (actually the "pit" for the spindle) undo the (awkward) retaining screw on the tube. At this pint the spindle is now free and would otherwise slide out onto your lap, so just redo all the screws in reverse order -in particular don't forget the Earth wires.
Then holding onto the turntable and plater - flip the unit back over.
The plater will now lift out freely, taking care to unhook the belt from the drive capstan/motor (on the top left) keep hold of the belt with your two fingers (as you have already lifted off the slip matt ) let the old belt slip free and place the new one on the Flange remembering to hold with two fingers as before. the spindle will slide back into the "Pit" (ensure that the bearing has not fallen out) still holding the belt in place hook it over the capstan and under the speed changing device. Try rotating the plater a few times to ensure nothing is trapped untoward, then replace the slip matt.
Re insert Phono lead and then mains power plug.
Place side one of "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" on turntable and enjoy :)

Turntable belt is off.

Under the felt of the turning platter section, there should be two rather large holes. Insert your thumb and forefinger and pull the table off. You should also see where the existing belt is running. Insert new belt around the motor first and replace the table section. Now, through the two holes, manouver the belt onto the table section until it spins freely

I have just a basic belt drive turntable and the belt fell off.... i need help on how to put it back on

Hi There.
If the belt falls of the platter, it might be an indication that the belt has stretched and is now too large. Or maybe it just fell off for any other reason.
Remove the rubber mat, and pull upwards on the platter to remove it. Sometimes there is a small "C" clip on the center spindle that has to be removed first. (use a small flat screwdriver to remove)
Turn platter over, and put rubber belt around diameter ring on underside of platter. It should be snug, and not fall off when you turn platter over.
Put platter back onto turntable, and spin by hand until you see the motor shaft through one of the holes in platter.
With a pair of tweezers - or crochet hook, put belt over shaft.
You're done.
Put back rubber mat and give it a try.
Good luck,
Fred
PS: If there was a "C" clip, you can re-install it - or throw it away.

How to lift up the JVC L-a21 platter for changing the belt? Thank you in advance.

I am not familiar with this exact turntable, but on most belt driven turntables, the platter should simply pop off. There are usually holes in the platter once you remove the rubber mat. Put your fingers in the holes and pull up while pressing down on the center spindle, and the platter should pop off. Sometimes you have to put on a little force to get it to come off.
The holes in the platter are to allow you to attach the new belt to the motor spindle once you put the platter back on with the new belt.

Table does no rotate

If it is belt-driven the belt may be broken or fallen off.  Lift the turntable to check underneath.  There may be a spring clip near the center of the turntable that you have to remove to lift it.

the belt is at the button of the turn table.
lock down the turn table and turn the turn able upside down, unscrew the 4 screws and open the button plate. you may need to get a new belt. make sure it is the right size.(that may be a difficult, now a days).

The belt on my turn table came lose

01- Remove the rubber cushion.
02- Remove the Turntable Platter
03- Place your drive belt around the ridge inside the platter
(Make sure that it is not twisted)
04-Place your Turntable Platter back on the unit
05-rotate your platter until you can see a brass knob through one of the round holes in the turntable. (Your belt must be placed around the brass knob) The best way is to take a toothpick and carefully slide it under the drive belt and then pull it out enough that you can place it around the knob. I had the same problem and the above works. If you still have problems getting it back on contact me 352-377-1828......

Table turns only once in a while.

The problem is probably the belt. When a belt gets old it tends to stretch and/or get stiff. Listen to see if you hear the motor turning. If it comes on when you lift the arm, it is not the switch.

How to replace belt in jvc turntable

I just got a JVC turntable from a thrift shop today and as soon as I got it home the belt broke. I had a replacement but couldn't figure out how to install it. After taking off the back, which is about 4 screws plus the 4 feet and the grounding screw, I saw a very tiny set screw on the post where the spindle obviously is. I removed this and the table came right off so I could replace the belt. I couldn't get the tiny set screw back but figured I didn't need it and if I ever have to replace another belt, I won't have to take the back off anyway. I hope this helps.
