Instructions

  1. Dryer Does Not Run
    • 1 Close the door firmly. The dryer will not operate if the door is not completely closed.
    • 2 Press the "Start" button firmly or push the knob in to start the dryer.
    • 3 Turn the dial past the "Off" position and away from "Wrinkle Prevent." The dryer will not start in the "Off" or "Wrinkle Prevent" position.
    Long Drying Times
    • 4 Remove the lint screen. Clean it and replace it.
    • 5 Check the temperature of the room. The dryer will not operate properly in temperatures below 45 degrees Fahrenheit.
    • 6 Inspect the area around the dryer. It requires at least 1-inch clearance on the front and sides of the dryer. A 5-inch clearance is needed on the back of the dryer. Move the dryer, if needed.
    • 7 Separate large loads and do not use an air dry cycle.
    Lint, Stains and Wrinkles
    • 8 Clean the lint screen before drying each load of clothes to prevent lint buildup on clothing.
    • 9 Add fabric softener sheets before starting a drying cycle. If the sheets are added after the load has partially dried, they can leave stains on the clothing.
    • 10 Dry small loads and remove clothing as soon as the drying cycle completes to prevent wrinkling.
    Dryer is Noisy
    • 11 Check the inside of the dryer for loose change, buttons or other items. Empty the pockets on clothing before drying.
    • 12 Separate items that are knotted together and restart the load. Knotted or balled up clothing will bounce and make the dryer vibrate.
    • 13 Level the dryer. Turn the leveling legs on the front of the dryer clockwise or counter-clockwise until the dryer is level. Turning the legs clockwise will lower the dryer. Turning the legs counter-clockwise will raise the dryer.

SOURCE: Dryer doesn't heat.

THE FIRST THING TO CHECK IS YOUR POWER. THE OUTLET HAS TWO ANGLED HOLES THAT SHOULD TOTAL 240VOLTS ACROSS THEM. THE L SHAPED HOLE IS THE GROUND AND THERE SHOULD BE 120VOLTS FROM EACH ANGLED HOLE TO THE L SHAPED HOLE. THE DRYER'S MOTOR ONLY RUNS ON 120 VOLTS ( FROM ONE ANLGLED HOLE TO THE L SHAPED HOLE). THE HEATING ELEMENT CIRCUIT RUNS FROM ONE ANGLED HOLE TO THE OTHER(240VOLTS)
THE DRYER WILL RUN BUT NOT HEAT WITH ONE SIDE OF THE CIRCUIT BREAKER TRIPPED.

IF POWER IS O.K., THE NEXT THING TO DO IS PULL THE BACK PANEL OFF OF THE DRYER. THE HEAT ELEMENT IS IN A BOX ON THE RIGHT SIDE WITH TWO RED WIRES GOING DOWN TO THE BOTTOM OF IT. IF YOU HAVE A METER, CHECK FOR 240VOLTS AT THE TWO WIRES ATTACHED TO THE BOTTOM OF THE HEATER. IF YOU HAVE
240VOLTS THERE, THE HEATER IS BAD. IF NOT, THE ROUND ITEM NEAR THE BOTTOM IS A HIGH LIMIT THERMOSTAT. IF YOU HAVE 240VOLTS AT THE TWO TERMINALS ON THE THERMOSTAT, IT IS BAD. PART #
279769 COMES WITH THE HIGH LIMIT THERMOSTAT AND THE THERMAL FUSE FOUND AT THE TOP OF THE HEATER ASSEMBLY. CHECK THE THERMAL FUSE THE SAME WAY.
IF IT IS BAD, YOU WILL SEE 240VOLTS ACROSS IT.

IF ALL THOSE COMPONENTS ARE GOOD, IT COULD BE THE TIMER, TEMP SELECTOR SWITCH, OR THE MOTOR'S CENTRIFUGAL SWITCH. YOU WOULD HAVE TO READ THE WIRING DIAGRAM INSIDE THE CONTROL PANEL TO CHECK THOSE ITEMS.

SOURCE: MCG8000AWW takes too long to dry

The font panel must be removed. This may be done by removing the control console (open upper cabinet doors to find screws behind the console). The screws along the top of the lower front panel are easily accessible. Disconnect the two interlock switches, remove the grounding clip attached to the bulkhead & lift the panel off the two lower clips. Inside the panel is a housing that leads to the exhaust blower. It will be packed with lint that may be hardened like papier mache. Just clean out the mess & reverse the process to replace the parts.

SOURCE: LG dlg5988W Gas Dryer - flashing "clean filter" light

i got the same problem and no repair man could help . i think i just got mine fixed 6-15-09 .what you do is go behind the dryer , remove the air duct and then remove the pipe that is inside the machine by removing one screw . this will give you access inside the machine .first clean as much as you can of the lint inside by vacuuming it . if you look to the left you will see 2 wires with a black button in the middle this is the ignitor ,clean it good because i think the dirt is not allowing it to light up . i did that and mine is working but the cooling light is still on .

Dryer vent blocked

Dryer vents can block up with lint over time. Remedy is to disconnect dryer from power supply, then disconnect exhaust ducting from the dryer. Sometimes the duct leading to outside air will be plugged. Try using a vacuum cleaner to remove the accumulated lint. Same thing with the dryer. Re-connect the power and give it a test. If there is lot's of air coming out of the dryer, connect the exhaust duct and test again. Check the outside vent to see if there is air coming out. Sometimes there will be a screen under the cover and it will completely block with lint. Lots of people remove the screen.
Hope this helps.

Are vacuums supposed to blow out air through vent?

Every vacuum has an exhaust vent to release filtered air. If it didn't, and the motor was strong enough, pressure would build up inside until something let go, and we wouldn't want that to happen! In the old days, by the way, some vacuums had an attachment that let you use the exhaust vent as a blower to inflate toys etc.

My lg 2240 clean filter light blinks even though the filter is clean. when started it runs for 3 to 4 seconds then shuts off. if you wait for about a minute it will start again then shut off after 3 to 4...

This problem usually is caused by a restricted or blocked vent. The filter itself can be clean, but the duct work in the dryer after the filter, or the vent hose attached to the dryer, or the exhaust door attached to that hose is either restricted, plugged or blocked. Lint likes to build up in all areas the exhaust air goes, so check them all. The dryer has a sensor that will shut the dryer off if there is a restriction. Cleaning all of the duct work, from the filter all the way to where it exhausts outside, will usually solve this problem. An easy way to check is to unhook the exhaust hose from the dryer and run it. Does it keep running now? It is possible the sensor in the dryer has gone bad, but that is rare. 99% of the time it is lint build up in the venting.

Dryer keeps saying check filter - lint screen is clean-dryer won't run

Had the same problem. Filter was clean. Vacuumed out the area under the filter. Still had problem. Unplugged the dryer. Removed the hose vent (back of dryer) and checked the exhaust -- all clean. Plugged the dryer back in and was fine. Still going to check the vent to the outside for lint buildup.

I have a kenmore electric dryer model #110.63032102 and have to send our clothes through twice before they dry.

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly

If your are sure the dryer is heating then there are a few things you muct check.

1. First of all remove the lint filter.
a. Inspect all of the air passages around the lint filter for lint build up.
CLEAN with a vacuum and crevice tool
b. Wash the lint filter with vinegar and water then soap and water. If you have been using dryer sheets in the dryer the material fromthe fabric softener sheets cakes onto the filter. The filter appears clean but will not allow good air flow through the dryer.
c. Remove the vent ducting from the back of the dryer. Clean out all of the ducting inside the dryer that you can reach. If you have to use a folded wire coat hanger to remove the lint in the dryer along witht he crevice tool.
d. Continue to clean the exit ducting on the house side of the ducting all the way to the wall exit. Go outside inspect and clean the vent flapper on the outside of the house.
e. After doing all of steps a - d above. While the vent is disconnected from the dryer start the dryer and check for a strong HOT air flow from the dryer vent exit hole. If there is not a strong HOT air flow there is still a problem with lint build up or the blower fan impeller is loose / broken on the motor output shaft.

Everything listed above assumes that the dryer is still heating. If the dryer is not heating then respond here and we can go from there.

Thin twin washer dryer that smells like burning electrical. The dryer was very hot after the cycle. What could be causing this?

That sounds like the exhaust air is restricted somewhere. Take the lint filter out and wash it in hot water and detergent to remove the fabric softener deposits. Remove the external vent hose and clean the lint from it and the outside shutter assembly. Vacuum below the lint filter and from the exhaust tube that the hose attaches to. Try to get inside the door cavity with the vacuum (watch out for sharp metal edges). Run the machine for a short time with no clothes in it, without the lint filter, and with the hose disconnected to blow out any lint previously missed. Make sure that there is a good volume of air moving. Hope this helps!

Whirlpool duet GGW9250PW2 not drying effectively. We run on more dry setting.

Sometimes blower wheels will get loose in dryers. Sometimes they will get a whole lump of lint in them or you can hear a rattling noise in the dryer, this is the blower wheel, its worn out and it can cause the fuse to blow too,or it can half *** work and take fifty forever's to dry the clothes.Or it could be just that the dryer needs a good blowing out .I use a lawn blower to get all the lint out of the dryer as well as the vent pipe and vent to outside. I take the filter HOUSING out and wash it also. That is, I remove the housing and clean is good! Making sure that the dryer is properly flowing air is a good thing!

My Miele T8322 Tumble dryer turns off before the clothes its fully dry even in Extra Dry mode. The vent pipe is clear. Is there any kind of adjustment or do I need to get a new sensor under warranty...

IS THE DRYER PUSHED UP AGAINST THE VENTING IN THE BACK OF THE DRYER? IT MAY BE CRIMPING THE EXHAUST MATERIAL CAUSING A RESTRICTION.

IF THAT IS O.K., DISCONNECT THE EXHAUST AND RUN A LOAD OF LAUNDRY THROUGH A NORMAL DRY CYCLE.
IF THE DRYER DRIES THAT LOAD O.K., THERE IS A RESTRICTION SOMEWHERE IN THE EXHAUST. ALSO, CHECK THE LINT TRAP. IF THERE IS A WHITE CLOUDY FILM ON THE LINT FILTER, TAKE A WIRE BRUSH AND CLEAN IT OFF. IT IS RESTRICTING THE AIR FLOW AT THE FILTER.

CHECK THE LINT FILTER HOUSING FOR A BUILD UP OF LINT. IF THERE IS, USE A CENTER CARDBOARD FROM WRAPPING PAPER ATTACHED TO THE END OF THE VACUUM HOSE. FLATTEN THE CARDBOARD TO FIT INTO THE FILTER SLOT AND CLEAN OUT THE LINT.
