Question about IBM ThinkPad T23 2647 Notebook
When I click start, the sturn off computer, then turn off, my lpatop just ignores it and does not even attempt to shut down. The last time I used the powerdown button, I lost my had drive and my laptop needed a complete rebuild.
Please advise how I fix this problem.
It sounds like a new program is preventing normal shutdown. Typically, programs that do that are spyware. I would start by downloading Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/
Install and run the program and remove the problems it finds. If that doesn't fix your shutdown problem, you can try System Restore. Let me know which operating system you have (XP or Vista) and I can give you instructions about that.
As for losing your hard drive on power off, that is a VERY rare occurrence. I have fixed many thousands of computers and I have only seen that a couple of times. I do it maybe four or five times a day to various systems with no problems. Obviously it's not an ideal way to turn things off, but temporarily its not a big deal.
