There is a jumper block near the audio connections in the I/o area. This block was intended for an internal connection to allow for front panel audio. If you bout a bare motherboard, you did nit get this cable. You need to put jumpers on the block to choose rear I/O audio. It's pretty obvious when you look at the traces, how the jumpers go. If you are still stuck, message back here.
IF THE DRIVER FROM THE INTEL SITE IS NOT WORKING THEN YOU MAY HAVE A HARDWARE ISSUE WITH YOUR MOTHERBOARD.

if you have installed the driver, and still no sound, you should check if the soundcard isn´t disabled in BIOS (most of bios-es start when you hit Delete while restart- please don´t play loose with those things, just look after what you need and give the ENABLED value, then save and restart)

Right click my computer icon, click properties, select hardware then
click device manager, check the audio device you can see the yellow
question mark,insert mother cd driver then right click the yellow
question mark and update the driver. otherwise change the audio driver..
