Question about Televison & Video
I would first start with checking the power capacitors. Check for any that have bulged tops.

Since the sound remains, the power suply board is probably OK. There is a circuit called the "inverter" circuit that powers the backlight of the panel that could be defective. It is possible for the panel to be defective, but that is not common. If you can update this with the model number, I will locate the inverter board part number and cost. That is the most common failure part. Also, if this set is still under warranty (less than a year old), request warranty repair.

that set is highly rated by users .. it first came out in early 2009 (i think) so you might check to see if any warranty remains ... the display is illuminated by several lamps .. each lamp has its own high voltage inverter .. all the innverters are powered by an output of the low voltage power supply (often 18 volts)... i would suspect a problem with that low voltage power supply.. either a bad capacitor or a thermal issue .. .. ..
