Yeah, google maps does not navigate, it only shows your location, and shows directions, but I think it should follow you with the gps, I can't check at the moment as my gps is broken...
But I do know for sure that it will not tell you, with voice and text, when to turn and how much of a distance you have to make that turn, etc. Navigation software is a must if you are planning to use it while driving..Google Maps is enough if you ask me though, but only if you have an unlimited data plan...otherwise get navigation software, which has the maps stored as data straight on your phone.
Contact your carrier, then will unlock your phone to be used on the network. You would probably have to give some number that is associated with the phones radio signal, which they will tell you. There are some numbers behind the battery (which is behind the back cover), and in start>settings> system> device information.
The instruction given in the user's guide are WRONG, which infuriated me. To perform a hard reset, hold down the power button and turn the phone off. Then, while holding volume down and the center button, turn the phone back on. It will give you the hard reset prompt immediately. Follow the instructions. I hope I saved you the stress I went through.
Hye! here's how you can take care of this issue: Dowload google maps from the web (for windows mobile) & install it on your diamond. In order to use GPS on this phone, your internet/gprs connection must be functional; without netwrok connectivity you cant use GPS on this device as it does not have the map interface on its chip (& cant be loaded later too). It just has a light GPS transceiver which in presence of a mapping software (such as google maps) can show your position on the globe & in some countires can also navigate you. After installing google maps, make sure your internet connectivity is on and then work with google maps 'USE GPS' & 'My location' or 'Navigate' functions ... enjoy!
