Adding memory to packard bell Imedia 1308

I have added memory to computers before
the problem with this machine how do I get into it ?
there is no obvious way ,the side panel on the motherboard side has 2 screws at the back but on the opposite side there are no screws although it looks as if the side should slide off
there are two sliders on the back with lock/unlock only one of these can move the other being held by the case
any help appreciated

    Thank

this is not my machine and I guess I was reluctant to use brute force

It has come off with the use of 2 wide bladed drivers but it was really stuck tight it bent the lip where the drivers levered against them

The middle slider at the back is the one to unlock the other just holds the tops of the expansion cards (if any) in place. The side panel should then slide off - if not then gently use a thin blade to carefully lever the side at the back of the machine. Watch out 'cos once it's moving it can shoot off!
You can then see the memory slots and whole insides of the machine etc.
You should never need to remove the other side as everything is designed to be got at from just the one side.

I would suggest going to the Packard Bell Support web site then select your country followed by selecting your model of computer which will then give you access to any available documentation to help you with upgrading memory etc.

I have Packard Bell iMedia 5094 (P660403401) which is very slow on start up and running programs can upgrade or add to the memory to speed it up

Howdy. unless you are doing nothing but very basic word processing, that computer will not run most modern programs well or at all. There is no way to speed it up enough to match current applications. A variety of faster machines are available for as little as 200 dollars. You can keep your mouse, keyboard and monitor and just replace the tower, or get all new for just a little more. walmart, tigerdirect dot com or overstock dot com have a bunch of deals. It's cool that it still works, though. you must keep it pretty clean. Farmerbear at FixYa

Packard bell i media desktop pc freezes before

Then the problem must be a software related one. Something your adding to the system (knowingly or unknowingly) is causing this.

Install your recovery disks and immediately put on Avira Antivirus software.

http://download.cnet.com/Avira-AntiVir-Personal-Free-Antivirus/3000-2239_4-10322935.html?part=dl-10322935&subj=dl&tag=button&cdlPid=11012914

Then update it from the web. ensure it checks all files on open and close. The point is i think you maybe installing something with a virus in it. better to check your system thoughout.

Avira is the best free one there is. Nothing compares.

Ubuntu requires high graphic memory on your computer. It could install on some components but it doesn't work on whole installation process. If you are having a desktop machine, add graphic/video card to the motherboard so that Ubuntu will finally be installed in your computer.

Thanks

I have tried to upgrade my Packard Bell Imedia 1559 to 4 gigs from 1 gig of factory installed memory. However, the machine will not accept memory from Kingston or Transcend in any combination, and although...

I have read many posts about the PB Imedia and problems trying to upgrade memory. Sounds like there are some motherboard issues with this PC . Some have reported success with mixing different memory types and speeds, but no real answers as to why.

You may have to check the voltage that powers the memory. Some memory sticks are rated at 1.8v , others use other voltages that will hang your system if mixed.

Check with the manufacturer for their recommendation.
