Three possibilities come to mind: First, there may be some foreign objects stuck between the sections of the coils where they connect or in their individual holes, the next is that the cord or outlet in your house is getting too hot (the circuit is being overloaded, perhaps; and finally, the clincher, you have a tiny oil leak in the coils themselves.

Why don't air blow?

If you smell something burning, not a good sign. I would investigate ASAP, to prevent a potential fire hazard. You could have wires shorting out, grounding out, whatever. DO NOT look at replacing the fuse or relay until you determine the cause of the burning smell.

My Indesit IDL40 dishwasher, loud bang with slight burning smell but still working?

Any burning smell is not good. Indicates that something in there is too hot and perhaps melting something. Could even catch fire......

Could very well be that whatever is responsible for the noise can be causing the problemo.

We have a one year old home with PEX pipe and one year old hot water heater fed by a water softener. In one of the bathroom sinks, and only there it seems, there is a sulfur smell when we first open the...

i would check the softener before the water heater, when was the last time you did a back flush of the system? water sitting at the bottom of a water softener tank can get moldy and begin to rot, which causes H2S gas which smells like sulfur , its a breakdown of decay,, this will also happen if your home is using well water,, so check that first , empty the tank and clean it our ,, then back flush the system

To make sure that there is not a problem with your blower test it on cool. if it runs good. then start the heater on auto and it should be okay. but still supervise the operation for about 5 mins. if you still smell something burning . then call an AC Technician for help.

Smell of electrical burning.. no more heat in house!

First of all keep this in mind.
You will need to locate the wires that got hot. If you can't or if your not sure, I suggest that you call a service company. If they ok the unit and it catches on fire after wards, their insurances will cover you unit and or home if god forbid it burns. This is to be on the safe side.
Now, this is where I would look. Your element should be on it's on circuit. There should be a disconnect within reach of the air handler. Some are fused and some are not. The wires that got hot enough for you to smell them should show signs of being hot like the plastic will be melted around the wire. You said that the heater was running. Was this the first time you have used it this year? If so, are you sure it was not the dust burning off the elements? They will smell like something burning when you first turn them on each year. Although if your sure you smelled wires getting hot, please continue looking for just that. Keep in mind that the elements have 220 volts coming to them. It comes into the unit and go to a switch or relay. From there the power goes to the elements and then to a neutral. These are the wires you will need to pay the most attention to. Good luck.

Burned electrical smell from the freezer compartment

I would check the defrost thermostat usually a button type switch with 2 wires on it mounted to the freezer coil. Size depends on type ; 1 type is about quarter size, 1 is about dime size, and electronic sensor (not had one burn out but the board could smell like your description but I believe these are not in the freezer section).

I have had these cook out and smell up the freezer section before. And if they go out guess what it wont defrost either. If your fan motor goes out it might smell and wont cool all over but the frost should be minimal.

Also a bad defrost heater could make a smelly situation it is usually a black rod or aluminum colored and the rubber ends can burn and make a smell.
If you find its the heater, I would replace the defrost thermostat as well. Its suppose to cut off the heater before it gets too hot.

If this helps you find your problem please rate me as high as possible if not please post back with more information as to what you did find. Thanks for using fix ya and good luck.

Burt Toast Smell while running heater

This is caused by in most cases dry tree leaf getting particles into the heating duct through the air intake at the base of the windshield, this material contacts the red hot blower motor speed control resistor and burns, and yes it smells like burnt toast, in order to clean this stuff out u need to remove the blower motor, the material will be in the duct near it. I have seen this cause a fire, so get it checked and cleaned ASAP.
