Model DC24. The brushbar does not revolve

I have checked for blockages but nothing found. The appliance was purchased 20/04/2012 and is used just once a week in three quite small rooms. The 2 pin connection seems OK

The belt may seem okay and intact but it can be stretched. If it is stretched then it will not turn the brush when it is on the carpet. Here is the belt you need:

Same problem here. We noticed a loss of suction for about 5 minutes and the suction stopped. Beater bar still rotates but ZERO suction.

SOURCE: Brushbar has stopped spinning on Carpets

Because the brush bar is electric, it automatically shuts off if you get something stuck in it to keep the motor from burning up. you have to remove the item and then push the small reset button on the side of the brush bar<!-- from fixya rte -->

SOURCE: On the piece that covers the brushbar and motor

In theory, yes. If the brushbar isn't held firmly, then the belt isn't running smoothly which puts more strain on the motor. This can cause the motor to get hot very quickly which will trip the thermal overload protection.

After it switches off, do you have to wait several minutes before it will turn back on?

Beater bar is not turning...read that you must reset beater bar. Where is the reset button?

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having a problem with your DC24. Resetting it is simple: after checking the brushbar is free of threads, hair and other obstructions, turn the cleaner to face you. You'll find the reset button in the red recess on the left-hand side of the cleaner head. Use the blunt end of a pencil or something similar to push it in until you hear an audible 'click'.

For more detailed information on how to clean the brushbar and check the cleaner head for blockages, you may find it helpful to visit www.dyson.com and click on 'Support':

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=1129&product=DC24-ALLFLOORS

If you find you're unable to get the brushbar started again after cleaning and resetting it, please get in touch with us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). One of our experts will be happy to provide the assistance you need.

Kind regards,

Brush not spinning / no blockage/ no belt problems

Hi there,

DC24 is fitted with a safety device which shuts off the brushbar if it accidentally becomes tangled with a rug fringe, etc. To reset this, stand the cleaner so it's facing you, and locate the red reset button in the recess on the left side of the cleaner head. Pressing this in firmly should reactivate the brushbar.

You may find it helpful to run through these simple checks on the Support section of our website:

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/help.asp?article=1502&product=DC24-ALLFLOORS

Remember that the brushbar will never rotate when the cleaner is standing in the upright position, or if you've used the silver button next to the red on/off switch to turn it off.

If you need any further assistance, please get in touch with us free, on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Kind regards,

Jack
