Yes, there's always a way around something ,But here's an easy fix: 1:Go to Radiocrap (shack) and get a SOLDERING GUN, some SOLDER and some FLUX. This will let the metal "flow", and stick to each wire. 2:Take a blade and VERY gently scrape the two ends of the wires, so there's no plastic in the way. plus, it gives the solder some place to stick. 3:Make sure to separate the broken wire from the ribbon a few inches as to not weld the good wires together when soldering.4: After you have the good wires away from your "Danger zone", put a tiny amount of flux on the target wires. ( Too much flux, and it will smoke badly, and it wont stick.) 5:Plug in your solder gun, let it heat up, and with the solder in one hand, and the soldering gun in the other, start melting the solder until you have a droplet on the tip of the gun. join all three together in a painting or a dabbing motion. Once the liquid metal cools, it will harden, and TAH-DAH, You just became a computer repair man! WARNING!!! Solder is extremely hot, also, DONT breath the fumes from ANY of it. TIPS and TRICKS from the pros. Cover up the area under and around where hot solder might fall, damaging important parts. Don't use a high powered soldering gun, you'll burn the wires/circuits. don't stay too long in one spot, it'll burn the wires. cover eyes and hands to prevent burns. well, that's about it. I wish you luck, skintech53

Keyboard ribbon connector on the motherboard

Cut a piece of sturdy clear plastic packaging material (like memory packaging, etc.) or extra ribbon cable - cut it the width of your ribbon cable and long enough to handle.

Insert your ribbon cable into the socket and then insert the clear plastic or extra ribbon cable you cut to size into the socket above the ribbon cable.

This usually will hold the ribbon cable in the socket snuggly with enough pressure not to move and make a good contact for proper operation.
If you want cut and add a small piece of high temperature electrical tape to the socket, insert and cable. I do not recommend scotch tape as it becomes googey at high tempersture.

the smoke means that you have a short circuit somewhere on your laptop double check the connections that you have made you might have to replace the flat ribbon make sure there is no dust at these connections you have to keep a computer free of dust/causes static electricity otherwise it can cause it to overheat and many other problems
hope this helps

Model MDBTT60AW quit working - control panel has no effect. Lights will sometimes come on - all of them at once, but the buttons do nothing. Thanks for any help I can get. David Meek

The front touchpad panel uses a ribbon cable to connect the buttons and lightd to the electronic control unit. This ribbon cable tends to corrode atvthevpointvwhere it passes through the door to the control unit. You will see a brownish rust on the ribbon cable. A new control panel appears to e around $135.

Please help me, i have a Bantam Mp3 model Ba 1000 5g. but when connect it to the computer, it seems that the pc would not able to detect the player. i tried changing the usb cable but still there is no...

When you say "not able to detect player", do you mean an application such as Windows Media Player or it does not should up as a Removable Disk? Does the device power up? If so, what do you see on the screen. There is a system test you can do to see if there are problems with the player itself. I'll post the steps below. Ken ------------------------------------------- To test everything, you'll want to get your USB cable (PC not required), remote audio cable, and power adapter. With the unit powered off, press and hold the POWER OFF button and at the same time use a paper clip to depress the RESET button. The system will do some tests of display and then prompt you through testing the different buttons. It ends with a battery test. This may be a good one to document your values when you first get a unit so you can compare later if the batteries seem to be losing performance. To get out of it, press STOP. I?m adding detailed steps and normal results for comparison to your unit: Dr. Bantam ------------------------------------- LCD Test ------------------------------------- Turning Backlight On ------------------------------------- Turning Backlight Off ------------------------------------- (Display of Bantam Splash Graphics) KEYPAD TEST (should get PASS or FAIL, STOP to bypass any step) -------------------------------------------------- Press Select Key -> PASS Press ScrollUp Key -> PASS Press ScrollDown Key -> PASS Press Escape Key (this is MENU key) -> PASS Press next key -> PASS Press prev key -> PASS Switch HOLD on -> PASS Switch HOLD off -> PASS Plug USB in -> PASS Press remote vol up -> PASS Press remote vol dwn -> PASS Press remote play -> PASS Press remote stop -> PASS BATTERY TEST --------------------------------------- External Power: No (Yes when plugged in) Battery Level: 222 (low=140, high=250) Fault Pin: High Charge Pin: High (Low when plugged in and charging)

Definite ribbon problem!!! Need help.

Hi It's sad when a simple problem, causes a piece of equipment to be thrown away, while all the expensive parts are still ok. If you are mechanical, and can carefully take the unit apart,(make sure it is unplugged), the ribbon cable may be a plug-in type, and you can remove it from it's connector on the monitor end, and in the main unit, and if you bring it to your local electronics repair shop, they may give you one if they have one the same size (same # of conductors), or sell you one for a few dollars. Otherwise, if you have a fine tipped soldering iron, and experience soldering, you can bypass some or all of the damaged connectors in the ribbon cable with small wires. Cut them to length, and solder them to the respective pins on the ribbon cable connectors. Hopefully, you can see which lines on the ribbon cable have been damaged, and will only have to hard-wire bypass a couple. Otherwise, it would be more economical to replace it. Hope this helps! Good Luck!
