Describe the residue. If it's oily (black, dk green) then the seal is out of the tranny and oil is getting into the tub. Dry cleaning is best for oil based stains. Liquid dish detergent is good also. On white it is tough to remove. Your washer will need a new transmission or replacing.

If it is powdery I'd guess a soap buildup, especially if you've recently changed detergents. The new detergent is breaking up the old soap scum in the outer drum and it is redepositing onto your clothes. This should wash out/off.
Tip: If it's a soap residue, fill washer full without clothes with hot water. Add 1 gallon white vinegar and more hot water until the unit if as full as possible. Agitate 15 minutes and drain. Rinse with a full level and drain.

With a newer unit like yours, it may be feasable to relpace just the seal. The problem is that when oil gets into the water, water gets into the transmission, stripping the lubricants off of the surfaces and it wears badly. I'm not familiar with that model or make, and my experience is limited, so it may not work that way on this unit.

You definitely need help if your husband is not savvy with washers. It may or may not be on warranty. If it is, reguest a new transmission, citing the uncertainty of its condition and longevity.

If not, have someone look at it because it's still new and worth the expense.

My Samsung top loader washing machine keeps on leaving soap marks on dark clothes The machine model is WA90H4400SS

This is not neccesarly a machine problem. It may be undissolved detergent if you are using powdered detergent or maybe it's just too much detergent. It can also be an overloaded machine. To get rid of the residue, just wash them again after making sure the above issues are resolved.

My GE washer is leaving a brown oily residue inside the drum after washes.

I amj thinking that you use soap powder in your washing machine. If that is the case what you are expericing is the accumulated powder residue under the agitator breaking away and marking the clothes. Re move the agitator and clead all the gunk out of the machine including a water recycling(saver ) hoses. Washing powder is 90% clay that is used to carry the active ingredaient and is never completely flushed in the rinse cycle. Ity also cause a deteriation of the hoses and pumpseal. When you have cleaned out the machine I recommend you only use liquid detergents as they are more effective and don't leave the residue.

We have an Aquasmart top loader and our clothes, mainly dark items, are being covered by a scum after washing. We have put the machine through the clean cycle, but this has not made any difference.

I have found with my aquasmart that if you use the 'high efficiency' the water does not cover the clothes sufficiently which is why the soap residue (noticeable more on dark clothes) is visible. I don't use high efficiency. even on conventional sometimes I still have to check that the water level is high enough. Also **use only liquid, low sudsing detergent and do not put it on the clothes-use the dispenser only. As for my machine... Time for the repair man to check the sensing I think

Washer makes clothes smell like dog

Hello there:
please follow these simple steps
Instructions Things You'll Need:
  1. Step 1 Balance your washing machine. Standing water breeds mildew and mold. A washing machine that isn't level to the ground stands a higher chance of not draining completely. Take a level and place it on the top of the machine along the front from side to side and then again along the side from front to back. If the machine is very off, you can adjust the feet to compensate or add something under one of the feet if it is not flat against the ground. Portable washing machines are especially prone to have standing water because they are moved around and not leveled each time.
  2. Step 2 Promptly remove your clothes at the end of a wash cycle. If you regularly leave the damp clothes in the washing machine for an extended period at the end of the cycle, you will have mildew in your clothes and your machine. The same is true if you put clean clothes in the dryer and they are not completely dry when the cycle ends and you don't go back for a few days to pull them out. Damp clothes in an enclosed space for days will mildew.
  3. Step 3 Leave your washing machine door open in between uses which gives the machine the opportunity to fully dry out.
  4. Step 4 Use white distilled vinegar in an empty machine. Run a load with only hot water and two cups of vinegar to clean out the machine and freshen the scent. Vinegar naturally eliminates odors and reduces the buildup of soap residue in the washer which contributes to mildew development. You can also add baking soda and/or bleach to the load for both their sanitizing properties as well as assisting in ridding the smell of mildew.
  5. Step 5 Regularly use vinegar when you wash your clothes. Add 1 cup of white distilled vinegar to the last rinse cycle. Vinegar has acidic properties but it is mild enough that it will not harm your fabric. It does dissolve alkalines in laundry detergent which makes for cleaner and softer clothes. The reduction of detergent buildup in your machine will help to also reduce the incidence of mildew.
  6. Step 6 If you have a front load washer, they are particularly prone to mildew and mold. Follow the manufacturers suggestion as to how much and what type of detergent should be used. It is generally less than the traditional top load washing machines. Once again, additional soap residue helps to breed mold and mildew. Also, pull the seals back from around the door and make sure there isn't a build up underneath them that needs to be cleaned out.
  7. Step 7 Finally, if you have done all of the above and nothing seems to work there are commercial products available that are recommended.

Put washing powder in tray ,machine doing wash but leaving large residue of powder

Don't put the powder in the tray. Select you wash cycle, let the water run into the washing machine, then add the powder. The powder should dissolve before you put your clothes inside the machine. Let the washing machine fill up to almost half way and add clothes. This should stop the clothes from getting the residue powder on it.

My washer has a really bad smell like musty if i leave the doors closed or if I leave clothes in for a couple of hours is this a probem with them

hi there,

the musty smell is from the door boot or gasket. deposit from clothes and detergent get trapped in there and have nowhere else to go. i would recommend purchasing Washerfresh tables to get rid of the deposits. they are available all over.
