SOURCE: Welder not welding

SOunds like your ground is not connected solidly either inside the machine or at the ground clamp. Check to make sure the ground wire at the clamp is not broken then make sure the ground wire is connected solidly inside the machine.

Working on a 2009 Hyundai Sonata 2.4L with automatic trans. the starter ring gear is bad and I am wanting to find out if it is replaceable. Is it welded or bolted to the torque converter?

Neither it uses a flex plate and the ring gear is welded to said flex plate, any parts store can get you one or go to a salvage yard and get one.

Tip

How to set ark welders with more than fifty foot of welding cable

This tip is referring to welding machines using fifty foot add on sections of welding leads.
Number one: Set the machine with just the stinger whip(six to eight foot long) and a fifty foot ground lead. The ground lead can be shorter.
Number two: Get a piece of scrap plate the same thickness as you will be welding.
Number three: Set the plate in the position you will be welding in and clamp the on ground to to plate.
Number four: Turn on machine and set amperage dial to the size of rod.(if your using 1/8 rod set for 125 which is the decimal equivalent of 1/8) using decimal equivalents will get you in the ball park but depending on the coating , thick or thin you will have to adjust from there.
This will work for rods like stainless that have high resistance to current.
Number five: Once you have the setting that you like add five amps for every fifty foot of lead your using. This works for copper leads that are half inch thick and that all connections are tight. One more thing,if the rod is eating a crater ahead of the arc your running to hot.

How do i remove the blanking plate for the PCIe slot on my veriton X6630G? It doesn't seem to want to come out!

you may have to move the blanking plate backwards and forwards to break the metal at the bottom of the plate where it is attached / welded.

Towbar tearing anchor points on jeep gr. cherokee

Yes, by welding. However since this will change the hardness of the surrounding metal, you should at the same time insert, and weld in place, reinforcing plates with a matching hole for the tow bar bolts.
These plates could usefully be longitudinal (along the original vehicle plate) or gussets (triangular reinforcements at right-angles) or both. Do get a skillful welder for this job.

That is **** welding in the photos, and it will not last. It needs to look like this

Then clean the weld, rustproof, and paint over. Keep an eye on the repair every so often in case it does fail.

What is the proper mig welding procedure for welding 1/4" hardox 500 abrasion resistant plate steel?

Hi: This one it's a trickey one. YOU MUST GET RID OF ALL MOISTURE ON PLATE.

When welding Hardox you must pre-heat and post-heat the plate. Use a low hydrogen electrode, Lincoln Excalibur or ESAB Atom Arc 7018 1/8 will do the job or you require same tensile/yield strenght, then use a Postalloy brand 218HD hardfacing type electrode.

First: Clean the plate and pre-heat to 170F.
Weld you plate when done inmedialtely post heat to 250F for about 10-15 minutes and leave it to cool down away from any moisture sources.

That's the trick, if you don't get rid of the Hydrogen (moisture mostly) the weld will crack.
If you require more technical support contact your nearest Praxair welding location.

Good luck. Vote if this was useful to you. Thanks.

NOISY FLEX PLATE, KEEPS CRACKING AROUND MOUNT ING SCREWS (3) , WELDED UP CRACKS AND REPLACE SCREWS, IN A WEEK STARTS GETTING NOISY AGAIN WE HAVE WELDED THESES CRACKS 3 TIME NOW, HAVE REPLACED NEW FLEX...

sounds like it is incorrect flex plate
for bolts to keep coming loose i wouldsay the bolt threads in end of crank have been streched thru over tightening
you may be able to redrill and tap these
to do this you will have to pull engine
you alsocannot weld craCKS IN A FLEX PLATE
FLEX PLATES flex THEREFORE WELDING IS A WASTE OF TIME
WELDING WILL ALSO PUT FLEX PLATE OUT OF BALANCE WHICH AGIAN WILL CAUSE CRACKS AND PROBABLY WAS THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM TO START WITH

Not sure what position you were testing for:
2G is horizontal welding
3G is vertical welding
The position would definitely make a difference in your settings.

Lincoln 135 PRO MIG Welder feed stops after a few minutes

1/4" plate with a 135 amp machine is probably beyond it's duty cycle abilites. If you are using a mixed gas, and pushing the max on the settings, it will be cutting out because it is designed to.
You might want to get a higher amperage welder for consistent welding of 1/4"
The 140 Pro maxes out at 5/16" using inner shield wire. and 1/8", or 10 guage with gas.
