How do I unlock the oven door?

The door is actually open and I can't shut it back because the lock is engaged. It is a Frigidaire Self Cleaning Oven model #FEF365BGWC.

If the lock is engaged, is the oven in a self cleaning cycle? If so, cycle power to the oven, that should cancel the self cleaning cycle.

Reply back if that worked or not and I'll try to help you further.

    Tammie,

Turn the power off to the oven for a minute or so. This should reset the controller board, if the controller board is what is energizing the door solenoid.
Otherwise, it could be the mechanism is broken. I'll look at the assembly and reply.

What are you doing up this late at night anyway? :-)

Well, I cant get into SearsPartsDirect right now, which is where I look at exploded views and wiring diagrams.

  • Mark Egan Jan 24, 2009

    Well,

the latching mechanism can be set manually, but until I can get into the Sears website, I can't tell for sure.

Look at the oven just above where the door closes, and see if there is a grill of some type. If so, get a flashlight and look up inside the grill, your should see a solenoid connected to a lever, which latches the door. See if you can move the lever with a screwdriver poked through the grill.

I had the same problem. Door open but lock engaged so door wouldn't close. I called Frigidaire. Hold down the light switch button on the upper left front of the oven then press the Clear/Off button on the control panel...yours might say "Cancel". Door should close and door lock light stop flashing.

Hi .The oven door will not unlock until it cools down despite the cycle being finished. If it has not opened in a maximum of 1 or 2 hrs then oven sensor failed during self clean cycle and will have to be replaced.Try restarting self clean to unlock door .If not you will have to do the old coat hanger trick or manually move the lock mech. from rear, sensor cost $30-40.Hop this helps .Please rate my response :)

Locked oven door

Try unplugging the oven for about 30-45 minutes. Plug it back in and see if the door will open. If not, you have a bad latch, interlock microswitch or control board.

Self cleaning oven

Could be a malfunction in the lock mechanism, But if this is a newer oven or first time cleaning, the oven door seal may be holding the door out just far enough to keep the lock mechanism from engaging.
Try pushing in a bit on the top of the door to compress the seal a bit and then try setting it to lock while holding pressure on the top of the door. If this works remember you may need to press in on it again to get it to unlock after it cools.

Also check that the lock lever actually springs out to grab the door and that the hole in the door is aligned properly to receive the lock lever. I would think that you could test this with the oven door open.

Oven Door is locked and will not open

On many freestanding stoves the lock motor is located in the right rear (looking from the front) with a long rod connected to the lock. Pull or push the rod to move the lock to the open position..

Oven door won't unlock

I had the same problem on my Kenmore Electric Range. Door would not unlock. Tried pressing "Off" for multiple seconds, but still would not unlock. No error codes. Clock was displaying normally. Finally decided to try running it thru the self cleaning operation to get it to cycle thru locking and unlocking the door. When I started self clean, the door automatically went thru the auto lock and "locked" appeared in the display. I then hit "Off" to clear it and stop the cleaning cycle. The door then unlocked as normal!

DCS gas oven locked

I let the door stay open, hold the switch closed with my finger, activated self clean. Let it run for a minute then hit cancel, the stove heating element shut off and the locked door blinked for 5 seconds then finally stopped. Back to normal.
