I have the same problem with the same device, I think the problem is some kind of stealth virus, as I plugged it in someones PC and it worked, the AV kicked in and found some viruses which it got rid of some and another it could not. My CA av didn't find anything.

How do I reinstall OS without repairing?

Hello Maria!
You have to download the .iso of the OS you want to install (google 'your OS' + .iso'), then either burn it on a DVD or move it to a bootable USB (using that tool https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/windows-usb-dvd-download-tool), then you have to stick it in your computer. When the computer turns on, enter the BIOS (usually buy pressing F2 or F12), then change Boot preferences to USB first. Then just restart, stick your USB in and wait. The installer of the OS you want to install should then appear.

Hope it helped.

Kind regards
Thomas

When i switch on the computer it says that there is a hard disk problem found so you take back up of your files

Hi there, this means that your hard drive is going to fail. Take all of your important files and put them on a USB key or external device. A full backup is ideal if you have the space. You will then want to purchase a new hard drive and replace your old one before it fails and you lose all of your information. -Alex

I tried to use the SwissKnife soft ware to create a partition on my WD my book essentials 2TB external hard drive. How ever I couldn't find any instructions under help, so I played around and did some...

First thing that you can try here is to connect the drive on a different USB port on your computer if your computer is a desktop better connect it on the back USB port of your computer and then while its connected restart the computer and then now check if it be detected.

But if still not better if you can test it out on a different computer so we can see if it will be detected or not on a different system.

Hi,
Make sure that your PC supports USB 2.0, which is high speed data interface. Look for any such option in BIOS settings of PC and if available, enable it. On systems which do not support USB 2.0 interface, the data transfer is very low. You may search google for your PC Specifications and USB Support available.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

System backup

depending on what drive it is. Let's say it's a western digital, They all have software on there websites to copy a drive to a new drive. in westerd digitals case it would be www.wd.com and in the support downloads section you would find the software.

You would have to hook up both drives and tell it which you drive you want to copy from (old drive) and to (new drive)

How do i reprogram a IDE hard drive for my computer

Yes, you can put it on your current computer as a second hard drive.
What I would do is visit Western Digital's website and download their disk tools.
Once you do this, you can clone the old hard drive (the 20 GB) to your newer one (the 80 GB). Then you can make the larger hard drive the master and use the old smaller drive for a backup.
In fact, if I'm not mistaken, there are directions on the WD site to tell you exactly how to do that.

Which drivers for USB External Hard Drive ?

Well, Occam's razor philosophy!  I just tried on my 250 Gb IOMEGA external HDD on Win98 and it worked. "Mass storage" jargon driver does NOT work. HOWEVER if you declare it as "USB FLASH DISK", it WORKS, (after computer reboots), though not that speedy. Anyway, you can do your job. Now if you have found any better solution, please forward it at oratiara@hotmail.com. Thank you!
