Memory Options Hey, thanks for all the help, I found these 2 different memory sticks that I believe will fit my acer Travelmate 290. Could you verify that before I buy? Also, is one better than another? Or Do you have an even better one to recommend in this price range? Thanks a bunch for the help!

Hey,the ones you found should be fine judging by the specs.
I don't have a particular brand recommendation, but I would suggest you take the one you have with you to compare.(There are so many that look the same but aren't,it would help alot to have one to compare to)

Thanks and please rate this fixya solution

How to fit memory in acer travelmate 6292

On this laptop you can use 2 G of ddr2 on 667 mhz ..If the size is not a must be ..and can be 1 G or 512 modules the speed need to be the one specified so to work without problems ..and also the type (ddr2 sodimm )
If you think this is eh case...Just open the lid for teh ram memory on the back ..and if teh slots are already having 2 modules..just remove one ..if it is smaller and use the 2 G one in its place ..Usually it came with 2 G of memory ..and if it is in one slot it will have one free but it can be in 2 modules one G each this case it is even better cause you will have 3 G in total and you can avoid some of the troubles some found when using the max memory ..(boot up problems )
here is the procedure exactly in a video ...I suggest to reinstall teh operation system after upgrading for to work on full capacity and avoid issues that might appear ..(the system may not see the memory or have difficulties..But usually will work just with a restart or a bios reset to factory settings ..)
This is for a different model but same kinda ddr2 modules ..and also a travelmate the difference may be just in the cover ..but inside they are the same on the procedure ..remove the on eon top ..and install the 2 G module ..If it only have one module ..remove it get to the bottom one ..and install the module and put the one you removed back in ..
good luck and please rate my answer ..

My Travelmate 290 series is not working...

Try taking the memory out and then put it back in making sure it seated correctly then start using AC power lead it's probably caused by letting the battery get too low before recharging.Use a start up disc to get it going if you have to. Good luck

Acer Travelmate 529atxv states max memory as 512mb

512mb is the max memory amount this computer will accept.

Each memory slot can hold SDRAM, PC133 with a maximum of 256MB per slot. Two slots total. Hope this helps.

Acer's support isn't the best. IMHO But go to their support site anyway and look up your laptops manual (there should be instructions on upgrading your RAM there). I did find that your machine will accept up to 4GB of RAM 2 X 2GB sticks. There should be a door or port (for easy user RAM upgrading) that is being overlooked, but again it is an Acer.
Good luck.
