Your laptop can't find an operating system, check the operating system as it installed properly. If its is then you need to check the hard disk drive of your laptop because it is missing from the motherboard.

It sounds like the hard drive in your machine has failed. It uses a standard 2.5" SATA hard drive (Most likely 9.5mm thickness maximum, most are that.) Hopefully you have made a recovery CD set from the recovery partition on the drive.

Misty here is what I would do:
1.Start the computer in safe mode.
2. update drivers. I go into Slim Driver - a free prog. and scan the system to see if ok or need updates.
3. once updated, reboot the system normally - any change? GL

Wont go past first screen

First try this unplug from AC, remove battery, plug in try to boot normally. If that fails Open BIOS, Boot Order or the BOOT MENU, Boot from HDD first, and save changes and reboot, if that fails try a system restore/recovery.

make sure your computer is set to boot from your hard

Restart you computer during the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup usually the F2 or the Delete key

Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS the navigate to advanced bios features using the arrows keys press enter change your first boot device toyour hard drive press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart
drive

IDE-0 means Pri master
IDE-1 means Pri slave
IDE-2 means Sec master

or the operating system might not be detecting the hard drive
make sure all power and data leads attached from motherboard to hard drive have secure dust free connections

My system does not boot properly

This is common when there are corrupted boot files on your HDD or your HDD has failed. You need to boot to a windows CD and repair your startup files. Alternatively you can reformat to a fresh windows install but you will lose all of your data. If the previous steps fail then it looks like you may need to replace your HDD.
Hope this helps,
