Tv went black, no picture, no sound, a buzzing noise.

I believe you just have to change your input settings by:
1. Grab the remote control of your TV.
2. Press the "Input, or Source" button on the remote control.
3. Toggle all the option you see under input option so that you can double check the correct input on your TV.

Verticle lines on screen

This is a very easy fix. Your cable box is not grounded correctly. To fix this you need a AC Plug adapter. This will change your TV ac plug from a 3 wire to a 2 wire. This may sound funny, but trust me on this. I have fix a lot of TV in NY doing just this.24001fc.jpg

That set is probably not ready for the dump yet. The buzzing sound could be the power supply going into shutdown because of a shorted secondary supply, usually a shorted horizontal output. A good tech should be able to fix that at a reasonable price.
