That is either a Problem with the Drive or the Connecting Ribbon on the Inside of the CPU.

Unable to play dvd

Check to make sure the optical (DVD) drive is connected to the motherboard properly. This requires that it is hooked up to the power supply as well.

My dvd rom is reading cdz but not reading dvdz

If it's a DVD, it should read both. Assuming you tried more than one DVD, I'd say you need to replace the unit.

Unable to boot from dvd drive on Intel D33FSB Mobo. Bios is set to boot from DVD. DVD disk boots my other laptop fine. DVD Drive is working fine on same machine if I boot from HDD and read the disk.

Maybe it's cd/dvd lens sensitivity problem. Try to copy the cd/dvd and then boot with the copy one.
