Garmin freezes up on the first screen

Two things :
1. First a hard reset. Turn the unit off andunplug it from a power source. Then press and hold the lower right hand corner of the screen. While hold you thumb or finger here turn on the unit until you get the prompt erase all user data, tap yes and allow the unit to restart. Next we need to update the firmware because alot of the original firmware was buggy were the units would freeze up.
2. http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp go to that link and downlaod garmin webupdater and install it. While its downloading connect your unit to your pc via usb cable. Once the program is downloaded and installed, run it and follow the onscreen prompts to update your unit. This should fix your issues with your unit freezing up on you.

My garmin freezes on startup. Can't master reset

Hi,

You could try pressing and holding the power button for 10 seconds. If that doesn't work, try a master reset by:

Start with the unit off and unplugged from power.
  1. Touch and hold the lower right corner of the screen with an index finger or the eraser end of a pencil
  2. Continue touching and holding the lower right hand corner of the screen then power the unit on.
  3. Release the power button when the device powers on.
    • You will see a new message: "Do you really want to erase all user data?"
  4. Remove your finger from the touchscreen when this message displays
  5. Touch "Yes"
  6. Restart the unit
Please let me know if it helps.
Thanks

Every time I turn it on it freezes up and I have to reset it.

I've had a similar issue, where holding the power button for 10-15 seconds would restart the unit, but it would freeze at the "loading maps." part. I ended up plugging the unit into my PC, which started it for purposes of data transfer. I then disconnected it from the PC and it restarted properly.
Try those out and see if you have any better luck.

My garmin 1350T keeps freezing what can i do to

Go to gamin site and download and install the latest software and firmware if any. To download WebUpdater and update the software:
  1. Go to http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp
  2. Follow the on screen instructions.
To perform a master reset on your nuvi 1000 series device:

Warning: A master reset will erase all waypoints or favorites and will restore your unit to the default factory settings.
  1. Start with the unit OFF and unplugged from power
  2. Touch and hold the lower right corner of the screen with an index finger or the eraser end of a pencil
  3. Continue touching and holding the lower right hand corner of the screen then power the unit ON
  4. Release the power button when the device powers ON
  5. Remove your finger from the touchscreen when the message ‘Do you really want to erase all user data?’ appears
  6. Touch Yes
The device will now be reset and you should no longer experience the freezing issue.

My garmin is totally blank

I assume you mean the screen stays black and won't turn on.
I had this happen to me on one occasion with a nuvi 1300. Pressing the power button any number of times would not turn on the unit. Also, plugging in the car charger did not turn on the unit or charge it either.
I found that holding the power button for 10-15 seconds forced the unit to reboot, and it started just fine after that.
Since then, I've had an even more irritating issue, where holding the power button for 10-15 seconds would restart the unit, but it would freeze at the "loading maps." part. I ended up plugging the unit into my PC, which started it for purposes of data transfer. I then disconnected it from the PC and it restarted properly.
Try those out and see if you have any better luck.

Quest II freezes

With the unit turned off, press the "OK", "Page" and "Power" button at the same time. This does a hard reset. This MAY cause you to lose any stored waypoints. Hopefully, you have them backed up in a computer file. Aside from that, you will certainly need to reset your screens the way they were before. If this does not fix the problem, it may need to go back to Garmin.

When I turn on my magellan maestro 3200 it just says Magellan and stays on that screen . What is the problem ? I just bought the unit from ebay and this is the firt time I'be tried to use it . I read the...

whether its new or used, this can happen for a few different reasons. sometimes they just freeze up there and then they freeze up when someone has tried to update it and the updated failed before it was finished installing it.

hopefully all it will need is a reset...looking at your 3200, look on the left side of the gps and you will see a hole that you can insert something like a paper clip in..turn on your 3200 and insert a paperclip in the hole and gentle depress the reset until the unit restarts...

if it still will not go past that screen, just let me know and i can tell you if you can and how you can, reinstall the update and or tell you how to get magellan to repair it for you for free.

the reset normally works 98% providing the files are not corrupt

Need to reset nuvi 715, where is reset button

Hi,

There is no dedicated reset button on this unit. If the unit is freezing up or causing other problems a reset is achieved by doing the following

1) With the unit turned off - slide the power button to the left and hold it there for 8 seconds or more.

2) Power the unit back on.

The unit will be reset.

You can also clear all user data by holding your finger in the lower right corner of the screen and at the same time power the unit on.

Keep your finger touching the screen until a confirmation message appears. Touch Yes to clear the data.

Hope this helps. Thanks for using FixYa.

TOM TOM is frozen

To reset your ONE XL, use a straightened paper clip, or something similar, to
push the reset button. The reset button is next to the memory card slot, on the
bottom of your ONE XL. Then turn your ONE XL on.
If this helps you plz rate this. Thank you kindly.

Magellan Maestro 3100 locks

You can try a hard reset. Hold in the reset button (left side of unit, use a pin or toothpick), while turning on the unit. If you don't get the blue Magellan screen, you'll have to try again. If you get a screen with a blue background and a menu, turn it off and try again.
So far, this has fixed:
1. unit won't go on
2. unit reboots when routing
3. unit turns off after a few seconds

At least, it's fixed it for me. No idea why this happens, but it's pretty damn annoying. Give it a try.
