What are the optimal settings for my digital camera? I have a brand new Canon PowerShot 12.1-Megapixel Digital ELPH camera, but I've been really disappointed in the quality of pictures it takes. For...

Small white circles usually means dust on the lens.  Remove the dust with a blowerbrush - not a tissue.
You are asking for a "1 size fits all" solution for your settings, and indoor and outdoor use really means different settings.  What you should be looking for is the "White Balance" setting - on Auto it will be about right, most of the time.  You should be able to switch between indoor/outdoor settings (but they may be called portrait and landscape, or similar) and you will have to look through the menus for this.

Can't turn off/disable optimize image screen- nikon d80

Ok, all you need to do is:

1.Hold the camera normally like you would take a picture.

2.Turn it on and review a picture.

3. While looking at a picture, take your index (pointer) finger and rotate the front "wheel" right under the shutter release button. This switches the viewing mode, and should solve your problem.

What is the optimal mode?

HI! NOT SURE WHERE YOU FOUND THIS LISTED BECAUSE IT'S NOT ON THE MODE DIAL AND THE VERY MEANING IMPLIES " THE MOST FAVORABLE, OR DESIRABLE, OR POSSIBLY THE BEST SOLUTION TO A QUARRY OR PROBLEM" THIS SAID I WOULD THINK THAT THIS WOULD BE TALKING ABOUT ONE OF THE AUTOMATIC MODES OF THE CAMERA THAT IS SET TO FIND THE " OPTIMAL " SOLUTION TO THE PICTURE, OR THE BEST SETTINGS FOR THE PERFECT PICTURE. SO, I COULD SAY THE OPTIMAL MODE IS ONE OF THE CAMERAS AUTOMATIC ADJUSTMENT MODES, SET TO TAKE THE BEST PICTURE POSSIBLE. I HOPE THIS IS THE ANSWER YOU WERE LOOKING FOR. IF YOU FOUND IT SOMEWHERE ON THE CAMERA, PLEASE REPLY TO ME AND I'LL SEE IF I CAN GET ANOTHER ANSWER. BUT, FROM MY RESEARCH, THIS IS THE BEST ANSWER TO THE QUESTION. THANKS!

Optimal Settings

There are no perfect settings. Most people leave the controlls in the middel. The controls are for you to adjust the picture to where you like it the most. Keep in mine that the picture can be different from one chnnel to the other. Try to find a happy medium for all channels.

Shooting modes

The Shooting modes are as follows: Program Auto (Factory default setting) Used for regular photography. The camera automatically makes the settings for natural color balance. Other functions, such as the flash mode and metering, can be adjusted manually. Portrait Suitable for taking a portrait-style shot of a person. The camera automatically sets the optimal shooting conditions. Landscape Suitable for taking photos of landscapes and other outdoor scenes. The camera automatically sets the optimal shooting conditions. Night scene Suitable for shooting pictures in the evening or at night. The camera sets a slower shutter speed than is used in normal shooting. If you take a picture of a street at night in any other mode, the lack of brightness will result in a dark picture with only dots of light showing. In this mode, the true appearance of the street is captured. The camera automatically sets the optimal shooting conditions. If you use the flash, you can take pictures of both the subject and the background. Self Portrait Enables you to take a picture of yourself while holding the camera. Point the lens towards yourself and the focus will be locked on you. The camera automatically sets the optimal shooting conditions. The zoom is fixed in the Wide position and cannot be changed.
