There is usually a Symbol key that acts just like the Num LK key. Press it and that should change it back from white to blue.

What is the blue button for on my acer travelmate 3230

The blue button (on nearly all notebook computers) is a "Function" shift key. Since space is a concern on portable computers, it is appealing to have each key on the keyboard do "double duty" We are familiar with this, using the SHIFT key, to capitalize and to select the symbols above the numbers on the top of the keyboard (ex. SHIFT/8 is an *)
Similarly, there are blue images on some of the keys that can be accessed by pressing the Blue FUNCTION key along with that key (just like you would use a SHIFT key to select a capital letter). Sometimes, these icons can be a bit cryptic, so consult your manual or Google "Travelmate 3230 keyboard".

Hope this helps.

3414 gateway laptop backlight goes out

First look at the buttons on your keyboard. Look for keys that have a sun or light figure on them. It will not be the traditional white color, probably blue, or red, some off color. A particular laptop is a Dell Inspiron, and it has the symbols on the Up and Down arrows. It looks like a sun symbol. The symbols are blue in color, which means there has to be another key on the laptop that is also blue, that you will have to press in conjunction with these keys to perform the function. This is similar to a function key on a calculator. The default setting on your laptop is going to be power conserving. Meaning that when you unplug your laptop, the screen will dim to save power. You can change this by increasing the brightness. So in conclusion, in order to keep your laptop screen bright, you need to turn up the brightness when the laptop is unplugged. Make note that when you do this, the power consumption will increase.

How do I access the blue letters on keys?

Try holding the Alt or Ctrl key down, if not then look for a Function key or a blue key (not F1 -> F12)

My fn key wont work on toshiba sattelite pro

FN (Function Key) that is usually located near the bottom left on the keyboard is not a key that you press by itself to do anything. The FN key works in combination with the (F1 thru F12) and any other key that has the same symbol or color as the FN Key. You have to Press and HOLD the FN key while pressing another key.

If the FN key is Blue and for example your F8 key has a (white F8 on it and a Blue battery icon on it) then to see your battery metor (how much charge it has left) you would Press the FN and hold it then press the F8 key. The F8 that is white does not require you to press the Blue FN.

Sometimes the FN key might have a white square on it, then the keys that work with the FN key will also have a symbol with a white square around it.

How can I get the screen to brighten, and how can I get the blue symbols to work.

Not sure what model you have. Post your model # and I may be able to give better answers.
As far as the blue symbols. Most laptops have a special key to activate those. Look at the bottom left of the keyboard for a blue "FN" key or something like that. (You should have some key that would be just blue on it with no white--- it would say something like FN or Option or something). Hold that key down and then hit another key with a blue symbol to perform that action.
Note- that is probably how you change the brightness as well. Most laptops have the brightness control either as a blue function on the F keys (top of keyboard) or the up/down/left/right arrow keys on the bottom right.
If this was a help please give me 4 thumbs up as I am trying to build up my rep on this site!

Cant figure out how to get it off the little blue symbols

Either the "blue" coloured 'FN' is _stuck_ in the "down" position, or you have accidentally activated the "Sticky Keys" Windows "accessibility" tool.

With "Sticky Keys", you press keys just _one_ at a time, e.g., CTRL then ALT then DELETE instead of pressing multiple keys (SHIFT and '8') at the same time.

Restart, in order to turn-off "Sticky Keys".

Or, "exercise" the 'FN' key, until it "unsticks" itself.
