Ge refrig mod # pss26pstaa

The compressor and fan come on at rear. when I press the turbo cool button the frezzor fan comes on .press the button a second time it gives a EE reading at the display.

The evaportive fans are not comming on.I just replaced the cover evap assembly and the fan motors still dont come on.

The problem started out that the refrigator was not cooling. I noticced the evaportive coil was froze up. I assumed it was because the evap fans were out.

What would be the repair salution.

Luke

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

On most instances, it would be the fan motor (most likely). Considering its size and the 'extreme' temperature for its working condition, the small motor (bearings) are subjected to internal stresses.

However, in some rare instances, it would be the controller board (for this problem least likely).

To verify, you need to be able to check the presence of voltage supply to the fan motor or do a blind repair, that is just replace.

Pls post back results. Godd luck and thank you for using FixYa.

The ER of course stood for error and the EE indicates it was in the freezer fan motor. There was no fan motor signal for more than 65 seconds. This can be caused by a bad motor, bad connections to the motor or something obstructing the fan blade.

Its simple really,, Your refrigator needs re gassing,, call a professional and he will regas it.

When the gas is running low the fridge cools less and less and eventually will not cool at all when the gas is depleated. Its a natural process and any aircondition or refrigation professional should be able to come to your house and gas up the refrigator , a process that takes a few minutes.. I dont recommend you attempt to do it your self, as it will not take a whole can of gas and if by chance you use the wrong type you will spiol the compressor

Refrigerator in center between refrig. and freezer is very hot

most likely problem is a failed condenser fan motor. pull your refrig away from the wall and then remove rear cardboard cover. you will see a fan motor that cools the compressor and condenser coils. heck to see if the fan is jammed with insulation or other objects. if the motor needs to be replaced you can place a portable house fan blowing int the rear to keep components cool until unit is repaired. thanks peyton

it may be a bad condensor fan or the blade on the fan is loose. do you hear the sound all the time when its running? or is it when the compressor comes on or gos off?

Fan not working. Turbo cool reads error

Verify you have voltage at your fan. If you have voltage and the fan is not running then it will need to be replaced.

Noisy air flow problem, I think

the GE refrig has a variable speed fan motor controlled by the mother board located on teh rear of you refrig. the noise your hearing is the fan speed ramping up and down. if this noise is constant its possible the contoller on the mother board is bad and the board needs to be replaced. hope this helps...

Yes your refrig is not defrosting automatically. You can start by removing the shelves in the freezer than removing the rear panel (the panel that is frosted half way). Use hair dryer to defrost ice from coil. This will restore your refrig temporarily. Your refrig has a pretty advance defrost system and is not easy to test. If you have a meter (volt-ohmmeter) i can help with diagnosis.

Side by side not cooling

Couple of things... first need to see if the compressor is really hot to the touch and "clicking" on and off every 3-5 minutes due to high heat (trying to start). If that's what is happening you likely have a "start device" failure (little box on the side of the compressor). If the box is white in color and you pull it off and it makes noise when you shake it (along with little bits of debris falling out) you know it's bad. They make a kit to fix that known problem. If the compressor isn't trying to start but actually runs quietly... check that the cooling coil isn't all iced up preventing proper air flow inside the cabinet (take the panel of the rear inside of the freezer section to check it). If that is all a block of ice basically you likely have a defrost cycle problem (defrost t-stat bad, defrost timer bad, etc.). Other than that you should have a little fan right above the coils to move air around, if the compressor is running and the compressor fan (called condensor fan) is running then this fan (called evaporator fan) should also be running to move the cold air around. If that fan is dead then you will have a nice cold coil but no air flow over it to cool the rest of the refer/freezer properly. Let us know what ya find out.
