Question about Pool & Spa
Water supply went dry . power is on , pump wont turn on . don"t see a reset button
These really don't like running dry. Disconnect the power and see if you can turn over by hand by turning the cooling fan. If you cannot then something mechanical has failed this could be something on the front end and/or the motor windings. These motors usually have a thermal overload so if you can turn over by hand then the motor either has burnt out its windings or the overload has kicked in leave motor unpowered for an hour and see if it restarts . If you cannot turn over the plastic front has broken. You may be lucky to get parts from a salvage yard as these are usually cheaper to buy as whole unit.

SOURCE: 2 hp vertical sta-rite well pump
Did you prime the pump? To prime: Before turning pump on, unscrew plug cap from top of pump (usually on pump impeller housing,) and with a pitcher or garden hose, fill pump full of water, and replace plug. Then turn pump on and see if problem is solved. If leaking: Are all fittings tight, O-rings and seals new, and is there any pipe thread tape on all threads w/o seals?

SOURCE: Spa Motor Hums
if it is a used pump, these have a tendency to have a little rust. just get some pump pliers and rock the shaft gently back and forth. then plug it back in.

If all you are doing is running your filter system to waste or backwash the fact that the pool is over full has nothing to do with it. It should run fine in either case. Your motor is likely starting to fail and as it overheats, shuts off. You may want to consider taking it to a local electric motor shop for repair or replace the motor. That motor is somewhere around $150 from most places. We sell it as well. If you would like a quote, please contact www.arrowmotor.net

A broken jet internal would allow water to run back up the air lines and contaminate the air lines on all jets that are on the same manifold allowing no air to incorperate into the jets stream resulting in low pressure
