Question about Vizio 42 in. LCD TV

Open Question

I have a Vizio 42" LCD model VO 420E television connected to my Acer laptop. I'm trying to use my TV as my monitor. The 2 are connected, but my TV remote buttons are unreadable. What do I need to do with the remote to set up my TV as my monitor?

SOURCE: channel buttons (up/down arrows)

Do an autosearch in the setup menu and that should program those buttons. Weird I know, but it worked for ours!

SOURCE: Vizio GV42L 42 in. LCD

May be a bad power supply, which is a common problem with these units.I have a GV42L 42" manufactured in march 2007. It works perfect except the screen has a fracture on it. The warranty is voided because we damaged the screen. I can sell this to somone who has a good screen but needs boards or speakers, etc. Or I will buy your tv that has a good screen but damaged boards in it.

SOURCE: vizio 42" lcd powers up with sound only - no picture

It sounds to me that the unit has a faulty inverter board which could be due to an overheated/bulged capacitor. I would send in a claim on it to the factory if it is still under warranty.

SOURCE: Vizio 42 in TV LCD HDTV white line across to of

That white line (usually jagged) is actuallly part of the transmitted picture. However, you are not intended to see it because it is located in what is known as the 5% overscan area. Your TVs today are more than just cable ready... they are a versital, technology filled multimedia display. You can see that line because the screen size or wide mode you are using is intended for 1080p/24 signals. You have 0% overscan with this screen size setting. This allows you to see ALL of the picture, including portions of the picture the broadcaster did not intend for you to see. You can change your screen size using the Wide feature in the Setup menu. See pg.62 of your user manual for details and descriptions of the various wide modes.

My Vizio, when I turn it on the Vizio turns white, but the screen is black and there is no sound coming through

Have you tried hitting the 'input' button on the remote control?
Check the connections of external devices like an antenna, satellite, or cable that may be connected to the TV.
Press the TV button on the top of the remote to return to the TV mode if you have changed modes.

I connected Acer netbook (via VGA) to my RCA 42'' LCD and am only able to view the wallpaper on TV. I have tried different settings but no luck.

Someone told me to use the settings in the "graphics tab" (for multiple monitors) not the settings in the "properties tab". Both allow multiple monitor configurations. Two minutes later and high have a 42" LCD HD monitor!
