Yahoo messenger problems webcam locks up

I have ati all in wonder radeon 7500 graphics card with up to date drivers and also a zoom usb cam with updated drivers. i hook my camcorder up to my graphics card by s video plug . i had both cameras working with yahoo before and are both vfw compatible. i had them working before on yahoo messenger. im not new to the regedit configurations. one thing i noticed was i always had a webcam folder under hkey_current_ user /software /yahoo and all i had to do is add a dword value and set value to 1. and i could use webcams on yahoo now i dont see a webcam folder and have added a webcam folder and key and dword value and such.when choosing webcam on messenger my yahoo messenger locks up and have to crash computer to get out. iv reinstalled both messenger and graphics card and or both . i cant seem to get webcam running any more after me reformatting pc. but only thing iv noticed was that there was no webcam folder in regedit after reformatting. opposed to webcams working when there is a webcam folder . ive reformatted severl times and reinstalled yahoo several times

Normal 0 Web Camera’s have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.

Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.

A. Skype Setup:

After downloading and installing Skype (http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/download/skype/windows/beta/downloading/ ) set it up as follows:

  1. Go to Tools, then Options, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  2. Then click on the Video Settings.
  3. The camera if Installed Properly will come up and show a video picture.
  4. Then, on the bottom of the page click on Save.

The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now be able to see and her to you.

B. Yahoo Setup:

After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger (http://www.soft32.com/download_30.html ) set it up as follows:

  1. Go to Messenger at the top left and click on it.
  2. Next go down to Preferences and click on it.
  3. Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  4. Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on “Open the call setup assistant” and follow the instructions on the left window.

C. Windows Live Messenger:

  1. After you start Windows Live Messenger, expand the view by clicking on the square on top left next to the red X.
  2. Then on the Windows Live messenger window on the right side, click on “ “Show Menus.” And then click on “Show the Menu Bar”.
  3. Next go to the Menu Bar on right side, click on “ “Action.”
  4. Go to “TOOLS” and click “Audio and Video Setting” and follow the instructions.
NOTE: You audio and video should work. Enjoy.

When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.

Cam keeps locking up on yahoo

Yahoo does not have a generous amount of software allocated for webcams so ensure your settings are optimised
In addition to the webcam set up you will need to check the support software -
1) Internet Explorer - IE is coded with Yahoo Messenger and responsible for most functions - Signing in, games, etc. You do not need to make it your default browser but keep it up to date and clean.
2) Microsoft DirectX . This comes pre-loaded on most Windows computers but has to be updated
To start the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, click 'Start', click 'Run', type dxdiag in the Open box, and then click OK
Run through the tabs checking the 'notes' windows for information
The version will be shown on the 'Systems' tab
YAHOO MESSENGER WEBCAM SET UP
Plug in your webcam and visit this site - Hit 'Allow' in the top window and check your cam in the left hand panel.
Do not proceed if the camera fails to work here, but concentrate on your webcam software / drivers
http://www.testmycam.com/
Having proved your cam is working ,you can configure it to Yahoo Messenger 10.
COMPATIBILITY WITH YAHOO MESSENGER
You MUST use Internet Explorer to visit this page, with your webcam plugged in, to check compatibility and automatically download the latest webcam control. Make sure your webcam broadcasts on this page before moving on
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/messenger/messenger10/webcam/mstacamtest.html
CONFIGURE SOFTWARE
Its good practice to disconnect and re-connect your webcam before you start - if you have been using it elsewhere the Yahoo software may have difficulty in locating it. Mine, I just unplug it from the USB and plug it back in, if yours is integral with the computer you will have to re-start the computer, use a keyboard shortcut or disable / enable the webcam from the Device Manager.
Of all the chat programs, Yahoo is the most painful software to set up but if you follow these instructions you should be ok.
INTERNET CONNECTION
Webcam connected
Open messenger - on top toolbar. Left click ( > ) Messenger > Preferences > Connection - Select 'no proxies' or 'connect direct to the internet' depending on the version of messenger you have
make sure your internet connection and country are correct in the lower two boxes > Apply > OK
TESTING
> Messenger > My webcam - the warning panel will launch, click 'OK' and your webcam will start.
SET WEBCAM DEFAULT
With webcam still running > Messenger > Preferences > Webcam Broadcast > Camera Source - set your webcam as default using dropbox. > Camera Settings - adjust settings to suit. > Apply > OK
Take a note of any additional software, if you have multiple choice for Camera Source, you may wish to uninstall any redundant webcam software later to prevent conflicts
AUDIO
Open Video and Voice - run through your default equipment and make a test call - click OK
PERMISSION OPTIONS
> Messenger > Preferences > Webcam - make your default equipment selections and who you will allow to view you > Apply >
OK
My own solution was to carry out the above, upgrade to broadband, and increase the virtual memory on my computer to 3000 MB
You can see the frames per second on the 'statics' menu of the 'webcam' menu on the top frame of your image - anything below 1 fps will be in danger of freezing. In this case I reduce the size of the image to 'small' and my contact can zoom up from the same menu - this will double the fps

IN USE
When you are both on line and wish to show your webcam > Actions > 'Invite to view my webcam'.
Messenger 10:- > Actions > More Actions > invite to view my webcam. This will launch an invitation on your contacts screen when they 'Accept' your webcam broadcast will start- There can be considerable time lag ( +1 minute) before they see you, so don't be too impatient ( You can check the status on the bottom left of your webcam panel. You can 'drag and drop' the frame to a convenient location by grabbing the top border.

Your contacts may need to configure their connection the same as INTERNET CONNECTION above (Ignoring webcam connected) if they get a "webcam not connected" message

Sometimes you may have to broadcast the 'small image' option from the 'Webcam' menu on the top of your image frames. This happens when one of you is down on resources -its like sending a large photo by email - its quicker if you cut the size down
you can zoom up to 200% from the same menu when the webcam picture comes through

Use the 'Always on top' option from the 'webcam' menu - or your image will disappear under the message window when you type a message

Sounds like a Camera Source problem with the software looking at a video card and not the webcam

Test your webcam here to make sure it broadcasts ok - Hit 'Allow' in the top window and check your cam in the left hand panel.

Hello, I'm about to buy VX1000 webcam, but I wonder if there will be any conflict with the build-in mic in my laptop (HP, XP Pro SP3) or not. Other makes have dedicated cable with 3,5mm jack to hook the...

Shouldn't be any problem. The VX1000 has a built-in mic and is accessed via the USB connection. When you use applications like MSN Messenger or Yahoo Messenger then you can specify which cam to use (if your laptop has a buit-in one), and also which mIc. So you could if you wanted use the laptop mic and VX1000 cam, or use the mic in the cam.

Can not find installation software for web cam USB 2.0

One of the most interesting aspects to the Turbo 2.0 Webcam is the 4-port Hi-Speed USB PCI card ADS includes with the package. If anything, this card sets the ADS package apart from the competition in terms of bundles and extras. Installing the camera is as simple as installing the Hi-Speed USB card (if needed), throwing in the driver CD and pre-installing the camera drivers then just plugging the camera in. Once the camera is installed, it's ready to go. Also included with the camera is a nice suite of software, including iSpQ VideoChat, MS NetMeeting, MS Messenger, iVisit, Yahoo Messenger and Teveo Live.

The camera itself is an oval-shaped grey and black design, with an odd looking manual focus adjuster on the front and a snapshot button on the top behind the build-in mic. A tripod is included with the camera as well.

Use this link from Yahoo Messenger help to download AMCap its a little bit of software that checks to see if a webcam is compatible to Yahoo Messenger. Make sure your webcam is plugged in and save it to your desktop. The link you want on the page is "click here"

The other suggestion I have is to find someone with Vista and is willing to help you. I have Vista Home Premium and I can plug any webcam into my USB and it goes off on a search for software.
