Black Screen on HP Pavillion DV1000

Hello: My nephew, while my sister's back was turned, pressed some keys on her laptop which was working fine. Now the display is black but you can barely see to navigate the system. She pressed the function key combination to brighten the display, but still can only barely see screen to navigate the system. Is there anything you can suggest to rectify this situation? I do not think it is the inverter or the bulb as the laptop was working fine until curiosity got the better of my nephew. Thank You in Advance for your assistance and/or suggestions.

Respectfully

Dee

    Good Evening:

I apologize for the delay in responding. I have not been on my computer in a few days. My sister and I tried your suggestion, but it did not work. She will be taking it to a repair shop to see if there is any hope in saving her laptop, and hopes the repair will not be very costly. Thank You so much for responding and for all you assistance.

    Respectfully,

    Dee

Sounds like a backlight issue, first power reset it, unplug it, pull out the battery (its usually the long panel on the bottom or back) hodl the power button down for a minute and then repalce the battery and ac adapter. that should do the trick if not i would suggest calling HP to see if its in warranty so that you may have it repaired for free, if not take it in to a repair shop

I have an hp pavillion dv1000 it works fine but the screen is very faint i can barely make out the icons... i tried pushing fn f7 which is supposed to make it brighter and nothing happened... any...

the backlight may be going or has gone out, is it plugged in or running on batteries? when plugged in it should be bright with a battery is usually dies down so as not to use alot of energy.

If that does not help, try function key and making it darker, I know that sounds weird but sometimes it gets stuck in a weird loop, My dell laptop does it all the time.

The screen remains black when computer is turned

maybe a hardware problem, on booting the pc, move the screen to every angle to see if there is a connection problem.
If so, then use your warranty if you have one.

The screen is black on start up. No image at all.

The dv1000's were a limited edition notebook withmany issues. the motherboard going on them was one of them. connect the motebook to a desktop monitor if you have one and simultaneously press Fn + F4 to use the monitor as a screen. If nothing happens begin crying. Time to buy a new laptop. You information is safe but you need an IDE/SATA PCI adapter to view the files on another computer. If you were using XP, i hope you didn't password protect it making it private. That will be problem number 2.

Pavillion dv1000 back light does not work

Well, I believe the reason why it isn't working is because:
The backlight only works when your at the dark or at a low light condition.
If not press "fn" and press the backlight increaser on the top of the keyboard.

Hope this helps!!
