Hi - unfortunately, putting the tension back together takes alot of training - not only do you have to re-install the parts correctly so the hook is in the correct position and the bobbin is in the correct position when the needle moves down thru the needle plate and into the bobbin case to pull up the bobbin thread. Further, you need to set what called the timing - your needle needs to enter the bobbin dead on center and to a very precise depth. Technicians often use a special tool to set the timing, because each machine has a different a different hook and bobbin case.

I know this won't win me any points, but you will probably need to take the machine to a repair shop to have the hook replaced or reinstalled. If you mechanically inclined, you can search the web for a service manual for your machine - the service manual will illustrate how to replace the hook and specify the timing and needle depth settings.

Good luck,
Ginny

How do i fix sewing machine tension?

#1 rule in dis-assembly of anything is to lay out the parts in the order they came off. I do this with a piece of tape turned sticky side up on my table. (for future reference)

As for your machine.. since you did not provide a model number the best I can offer is this parts page which has some diagrams under each model. Please locate model from the several pages listed... and view the diagrams.

I took apart the bobbin part of my kenmore machine and can't get it back together

if you look in the well where the bobbin is supposed to go do you see two white pieces of plastic with a red hyphen on them...one on either side? if so, take a small pointed object and pull the red hyphens toward the center of the well. put the assembly back in the machine (it will only go one way, so be gentle. when you get it lined up, it will drop in). then push the two white pieces back away from the center with your finger. drop in the bobbin.

Can't balance top/bottom thread tension-model 158.Bottom thread is a straight line. Have increased top tension to the stop. No effect.Have reduced bobbin tension until bobbin and case fall freely when held...

I disassembled the top thread tension controller consisting of 12-13 pieces, including 2 springs. Since they all fell out on the table I spent about 2 hours learning the proper stacking order on the central shaft.
With a combination of reasoning based on each unique piece shape and trial and error I put it back together, adjusted top and bottom tensions according to the instruction booklet for the machine, tested some stitching, made final adjustments and all worked well.
I don't know what was changed in the process but it worked.

Putting back the pieces of bobbin case on Kenmore Mini Handi

This is for front loading bobbin..........

The Shuttle hook will look very much like this, and marries this to the "half moon" of the fixed shuttle.

3ff0a50.gif
The retaining collar ring that holds it all together has a plate like protrusion (like bull horns), this faces to the top and to the back.......there should be a small lug (or two) with corresponding small hole or slot on the fixed housing (hook race) that locates the ring tightly in the correct position.

There should be 2 swivel arms (black plastic at 4 o'clock & 8 o'clock)) that move to hold the whole thing together by clipping onto a small lug on each side of the ring.

If you tip the machine 30 degrees on its back while you do all this, it makes the process easier, as things are less likely to fall out.........support the back with a soft object for convenience (tissue box, pillow etc)

The bobbin case goes in after the housing is assembled, if you try to do it first, it will prove more difficult.

If this is not quite accurate for your model a photo of the bits would be helpful
