Question about Ovens
I think the part number is 5422317
The knob is probably stripped. if the stove is from 1950 you may want to consider replacing it. If it is not to expensive to replace the knob you can try that just email the company and see if they can send you a replacement knob

Simply set the Clock and Delay Start to the current time, then set the Stop Time ahead 3 hours. For example, if it is currently 8:00 then set the Stop Time to 11:00. The lights on the console will come on and the cleaning cycle will begin. At some point during the cycle when the oven gets hot enough, the lock mechanism is "fixed" and will not release until the cycle is complete.

You should pull the knob off and check that there is a metal liner in the knob itself. These sometimes fall out and the plastic knob does not turn the control properly. Get a new knob at your local appliance store.

possibilities are that the spindle retaining clip is missing giving the impression that the oven thermostat is being turned when infact it i s slipping, or the oven is in auto mode if timer model.
