The motor spins backwards during extract, so you could have a bad motor. Unplug and replug the motor wiring harness to assure a good contact.
A failed transmission can do this as well. Does the motor run while attempting to extract? (bad) Or does it just sit quietly dumb. Will the timer advance anyway? Are there any water or oil leaks? (bad)
The timer mechanism can cause this, too.($)
