Question about Dynex Wireless-G USB 2.0 Network Adapter

1 Answer

Can't access internet explorer ip address for Dynex Router

I have to switch the ip address to be able to setup my Dynex G router. When I type in the ip address 192.168.2.1 the internet explorer page says that it can't be opened. I know that I have to change the ip address to 192.168.3.1 and I've checked my firewall/virus protection to see if its blocking it and its not. I've call customer services and they keep telling me to return it and get a new one, I want to know why the Dyex setup will not open up? Frustrated!!!

I tried both routes and neither one works, internet explorer still says page cannot be opened. Yet when I plug the ethernet cord directly to my computer it allows me in the modem's ip address.

First things first.. if the router is connected hardwired, open command prompt and type 'ipconfig' and than enter, you will get some thing like this
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.
C:\Documents and Settings\Vishal>ipconfig
Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
        Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . :         IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 123.237.89.224         Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0         Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 123.237.89.1
C:\Documents and Settings\Vishal>
ip address and default getway would be different at your end, type the default gate way in he browser and try to open the interfce.
else use this start --> run --. type "http://192.168.2.1" and than enter. this must work at times.

    Lets try this,
unplug the ethernet chord and open command prompt..
type "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" and push enter..

than type "netsh winsock reset" and push enter"

you would have the following window in the dos...

    Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
    (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

    C:\Documents and Settings\Vishal>netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt

    C:\Documents and Settings\Vishal>netsh winsock reset

    Sucessfully reset the Winsock Catalog.
You must restart the machine in order to complete the reset.

    C:\Documents and Settings\Vishal>

plug the ethernet cable from the router to computer,

    Restart the computer.
this basically resets the stack of TCP/IP on the computer.

check if that works and please keep me updated.

    Regards,
    vishal

I'm trying isolate parts of my network and I need to place a Dynex 4-port router right after my modem and then plug my office lynksys router into that. (At present, the linksys is plugged into the modem...

Modem <--> Dynex <--> your computer should work.

Connect:

Modem <--> Dynex <--> Linksys router <--> your computer.

Turn off all the above devices.
Turn the modem on, and wait for its lights to "settle" down to a repeatable pattern.
Turn the Dynex on, and wait for its lights to "settle" down to a repeatable pattern.
Turn the Linksys on, and wait for its lights to "settle" down to a repeatable pattern.
Turn your computer on, and wait for its lights to "settle" down to a repeatable pattern.

On your computer, click Start
Click Run
Type CMD and press ENTER
Type IPCONFIG and press ENTER
The Linksys router should have given you an IP-address for your computer, and the IP-address for the "gateway" (namely the Linksys router).
Start your web-browser.
Type http://192.168.0.1 (or http://192.168.1.1) to connect to the web-interface "inside" the router.
Access the 'WAN' settings-page on the router, to see what IP-address the Dynex router has given to the Linksys router, and what "gateway" IP-address that the Dynex router has offered to the Linksys router.

It might be best to change the range of "dynamic" IP-addresses that one of the routers hands out, e.g., '192.168.123.100' to '192.168.123.200' for the Dynex router, so that both routers don't try to hand-out IP-addresses in the *SAME* range.

How do you hook up a dynex 802.11g wireless router

Hi,
To setup your Dynex router you can follow the below steps
  1. Connect the router with a power cable and switch on the poser, reset the router with its reset button normally you can find the reset button on the rear side of the router for 30 seconds and then switch off and on the power
  2. After reset conenct the router to any laptop or desktop with a cable and also connect the router to the modem or the internet service provider cable
  3. after all connection lights will come on go to right hand side corner of the computer and check if the network connection is showing connected
  4. Once you are connected with a wired connection open a page of internet explorer and type in router addess normally it will be http://192.168.0.1 and then type the username as "admin" and the password is blank so leave the password box as blank
  5. You need to set it up as per your internet service provider if you do not have any fixed IP address provided by ISP then select dynamic IP address and then click on clone mac address after saving these settings on the router setup page you can check if you are able to access internet then you can do the wireless settings
  6. Once the router setup page is open you can confugure the router easily without the CD setup.
  7. The advantage is you do not have to run the setup CD and you can also do wirless settings for your wireless laptops or devices
  8. Go to the wirless settings page and you can select the wireless on and off or you can setup a wireless security to avoide your router with unauthorized acess
  9. I would recomend always keep the wireless network secured if you are using the router for a home or small office as there can be people who will be using your bandwidth for free without your permission
  10. one more tip i would like to give whenever any kind of setup is required on the router do it by a wired connection only and not thought a wireless pc or laptop as it can disconnect you from the router in between of your setup
  11. WEP is the kind of wireless security which is easy to setup and remember and most wireless cards of laptops and computers support it

Cant connect to internet

Configuring router for Cable Internet (LINKSYS)

To configure your router for Cable you will need to set your router's WAN (INTERNET) port to 'Dynamic IP' (DHCP) option. The router is set to this option by default.

Configuration Steps:

Step 1
Connect the cable modem to the WAN (INTERNET) port of your router. If the modem has USB connection make sure that it is NOT connected to any computers via the USB cable and that the modem is switched to Ethernet (not USB). Only the modem's Ethernet port should be connected to the router's WAN (INTERNET) port.
Connect your computer(s) to the router's LAN port(s) or establish connection to it wirelessly.

Step 2
Open your Internet Explorer and log into your router by typing in its IP address (in most cases the default IP is http://192.168.1.1 ). Note that you do not have to be on the Internet in order to access this address because you are just connecting to your router's address. Specify username and password for your router, default is `admin' for password and username is blank (nothing).

Step 3
After logging into the router select Setup. Set Internet Connection Type to 'Automatic Configuration (DHCP)' option. Under Setup, click on MAC Address Clone tab. Enable it and click on "Clone My PC's MAC". Do this from the computer which the cable modem was directly connected the last time. This will place the MAC address of your computer into the router. Save settings and reboot the router.
Step 4

Click on SAVE SETTINGS and then on REBOOT THE DEVICE including the cable modem to apply the new configuration.

If you are having difficulties accessing the Internet, you need to:

- Log into the router and go to Status page. Note what IP address it is getting on the WAN (INTERNET) interface. If the IP address you see under WAN (INTERNET) appears to be in the same range you are using on your network (e.g. 192.168.1.x), you will need to change the range you are using on your LAN to something different, e.g. 192.168.88.1. You can do this on your router under Setup > Basic Setup. Note that after changing the IP of your router you will only be able to access it through its new IP, e.g. 192.168.88.1.

- Uninstall your antivirus/firewall software (sometimes disabling or closing the software is not enough) and reboot your PC. After establishing the Internet connection through the router, reinstall your antivirus/firewall software.

Did not get the resource cd with my dynex 4 port 10/100mbpsrouter

Of all the routers mentioned in this forum, I know of none that need anything but a computer connected to the router. Each one of these has a setup wizard which is accessed from a web browser.

Here's a manual if you don't already have it http://www.dynexproducts.com/skins/skin_1/Topics/Documents/DX-E401_Installation%20Guide.pdf

You plug a PC into the LAN port, open up Internet Explorer, and type in 192.168.0.1 in the address bar, and your wizard will come up.

If it doesn't, then post back and we'll talk about setting your PC's IP address.
