Thumping while drying

I have a DPGT750EC2PL that has been making a thumping noise for the past several weeks while drying. It appears as if something is out round.

It is probaly not the front felt seal but the bearing the drum turns on.

It is located in the middle of the drum at the back.
You will need access to the back of the dryer to fix.
It is realy a pretty easy fix and will save you a bunch of money.

The bearing looks like a flat plate with a tiny trailer hitch ball. I kid you not.

Open the top which is hinged in the back, pry the front up ,but be carefull to to chip the finish.
Its tight but no screws usually.

Find the screws to take the front door/panel off. With the front off and the belt pulled loose you can pull the drum out of the socket from the back of the dryer.

Buy the part first and you will see a lot of what you need to do. Use the high temp grease( included in kit) freely in the socket.
Then assemble the reverse way you took it apart.
Put the belt back on the drum and route around motor pulley, before the door put on the front.
Then on your knees or belly reach back by the motor and put tension on the idle pulley, ( pulley not on the motor.)
Route the belt around the motor pulley and the idler pulley so when you let go it tightens the belt.

It's not a bearing...
It is the SEAL and BELT in the front of the drum. These are parts that are intended to wear out over time. They hold the drum in place as it turns. Since they are worn -- the drum is no longer balanced and thus thumps as it turns. When the dryer is off... you will notice that you can giggle the drum by hand... this should not occur when you have a good/new SEAL and BELT -- approximately $75 in parts

Creda simplicity TVU1 tumble dryer is making a thumping noise while drying

Hi dave hemming.
I do not believe it is a bearing that is causing your thumping noise
***************************************************************************** do not need a new drum...all you need is new drum rollers
You probably have a flat spot on one of the rollers, it will make the thumping sound when the drum rotates.
Go to the following webpage and get your drum rollers and install them and that should take care of the noise you are hearing
Please take time to rate me

Thumping noise

Sounds like the tub is unbalanced from either a bearing/pulley suspension problem or the unit has broken something off in between the tub and outer portion of the unit before you get to the walled panels, and you are hearing a rubbing and thumping noise. This is not a typical DIY job since the entire back panel of the unit needs to be pulled off and diagnosed.

My dryer makes a thump thump sound

  1. Thoroughly check the inside of the dryer for any foreign objects with hard surfaces. Sometimes items that fall out of pockets become stuck inside a dryer and make thumping noises.
  2. Check for level
  3. Make sure the dryer is level. A dryer that is out of level may not rotate properly. Banging or thumping noises from unleveled dryers are common, particularly if the dryer is resting against another metal object such as a washer.
  4. Check rollers
  5. If the thumping noises are present only for the first few minutes of the drying cycle the likely culprit is rollers. If the rollers are warped they will need to be replaced and a professional should be called in to help

Heard a thumping noise everytime we turned dryer on...lasted a week or so.....drying a blanket last night cycle stopped half way thru.....still getting hot, just not turning. Thinking this is some type of...

The thumping noise comes when the drum is rubbing against the body surface. This could be due to the suspenders/support which is holding the drier drum are not steadfast. May be one has given the way. To know exactly if it is the belt or the coupling with motor or the support for drum , you have to open the back cover which you can do it by removing the screws at the back and then inspecting the machine.

Stackable dryer makes thumping noises -think its a broken belt

9 out of 10 times this is due to a bad roller. This is not something you can do yourself. A stack model is just too complicated.

Dryer is making loud thumping noise.

Take off the back panel of the dryer and look at the motor and belt turning the drum. There may be something caught on the drum and is pinned in place causing the noise. The motor could be loose on the platform and needs to be tightened. It is probably something physical and seen causing the noise.

Thumping noise in atlantis dryer after drying heavy mattress pad

Have you husband do a visual inspection of the drum and literally feel it to see if anything is caught or stuck on the drum. The motor also may have something caught in it as well. This would be the motor that turns the drum.
