Question about Western Digital My Book Home Edition 500 GB USB Hard Drive

1TB My Book Home Edition will only flash the light on front

I've plugged my My Book into my desktop PC and my Mac Laptop for a year and no problems.  Just a couple weeks ago we had it hooked up to the laptop and were printing holiday pics.  brought it back up to the office and now when we plug it in the light on the front flashes and THAT'S IT!  all my digital pics are on there... please help...

Hello my drive just flashed lights quickly and I knew that what it was doing wasn't the normal. I just disassembled the drive and the Hard drive is in working condition when I tested it in my computer, sooo the chassis was screwed up, thus it needs a new external housing, and it's a really sad deal that something so simple isn't fixed by them bastards @ western digital, they told me to go to one of their two certified groups for "data recovery" which I saw one site say "starting @ 645$" so I said screw that!

So now I have to either live with this being internal or buy a new case, though I love the functionality of this case: esata, 2 firewire, and usb 2.0.... what I shame that I'll have to ditch it...

OMFG :D soooooo glad right now.... So it was all disassembled and I put power to the external casing component and I thought I heard it even shorting out on the little chassis it sits in, and it probably was... but I just held the power button and all the lights lit up.... and I thought to myself... hmmm, then I held it for a but longer and I think all the lights turned off... so I removed the power to it and plugged the HDD back into it, and voila! I heard noises coming from the drive! and then all the light operations worked like they should and the computer detected it :D:D:D:D:D: soooooooo happy now :)

It's almost a mystery how it worked out exactly... but I'm sooo flippen glad
But defiantly might consider WD b4 buying another external from them... or maybe all companies are that annoying...

you might find this helpful ; )

I dont think it showed up but I wrote something earlier that said that if you color the LED Extender with a sharpie marker, then you can change the default white light in the front to what ever you want, I used a nice sky blue it's GG now it almost makes me **** in my pants when I see it XD... <-- drool

But just color the end of the LED Extender where the light enters, and for a better effect I applied maybe 4-7 coats onto it, and I colored 1-2 inches up on it until I met up with the little bridge it has on it.

Used to be white, just little fyi for anyone who doesn't have a My Book Home Edition, it's Home Edition if it has the quad hookups in the back: eSata, 2 Firewire, and usb-mini 2.0

Strange clicking sound from my book home edition 1TB. Disk is not visible in any system Mac or Windows.

Is the clicking sound continous? Did the disk fell down or did something else hit the dis? The symptoms are bad for the data you have in the disk... If the sound isn't constantly, leave the disk on the computer for a long time, it's possible to work again....

My WD 1TB won't start after i plug it to my PC

Silly question - but I assume you have it plugged in to the mains also? Can you see lights inside the 1TB? If there are no lights - there is no power. Check the connections from WD TB to PC.

WB 1TB blu light flashes but wont startup

The my book world has 3 different kinds of flashes.

1. Fast flashing (every 3 seconds) - Which means it's going into standby mode.

2. Slow flashing (every 5 seconds) - Which means it's in standby mode.

3. Alternative flashing between inner and outer ring - Means RAID failure (this only applies if you have the RAID compatible version [dual drive my book world])

4. Simultaneous flashing - Means the drive is overheating and the drive needs to be shut down.

Try resetting the drive, using the link below for guidance (this will not effect your data). If the drive does power-up, you will need to change the IP to static, if you had it that way before and you will need to login with the following login details: Username: admin | Password: 123456

Video files on MyBook 1TB hard drive lag

So, if you move the file that won't load onto your laptop it then loads? If so can you plug it into another mac and see if it works on that one (if it works it an issue with your macs firwire ports and an os re-install may be needed or your card has been damaged) or can you try another hardrive with your mac (if this works you need to reformat your mybook)? I've bined a HD this year already, not good.

gud day...does ur mac book support any plug and play device? if it is then try to plug it to ur another usb port if it doesnt work...there sumthing wrong with your mac book.,it means that your mac book doesnt recognize the hardware to attach on to it...or ur mac software doesnt support the external hard drive...mac book operating system doesnt work with your essential edition external drive
