You need to start with a basic inspection in the outside unit. For the breaker to trip immediately like that indicates a dead short. With the breaker OFF look at the internal wiring between the contactor relay and the compressor. You are looking for signs that the insulation may have been chewed by a rodent, or a wire is off of a terminal and in contact where it shouldn't be. If the wiring looks good, terminals pass tug test etc. you may have a shorted capacitor. Make sure to check the wiring for the fan too. You can disconnect the com lead for the compressor and fan one at a time to isolate the defective component if needed. Work safe! turn the breaker on for the test, and off again before you put your hand or tools back in.

SOURCE: tripping breaker
There is a short circuit in the fan motor or compressor most likely. Disconnect the common wire to the compressor and try again. If the fan comes on and the breaker does not trip you have a bad compressor or a bad wire touching somewhere. Also, check the capacitor. Is it bulgded out or a burned wire? Could be a bad capacitor.

Check your vent and inducer blower for either an obstruction or water in a low spot.

SOURCE: My goodman central air unit
1 posible cause.the thermostat supplies 24 volts to the outside unit to control the contactor if you hear a ligth huming on the outside unit this is the being activated. if this is the case then
check to see if any ants are in or around the unit see video, they will usually climb to dry areas before during or after a storm and for some reason they like the contactor if this is the case cut all power to the unit and clean contactor spray the area around the unit with an insecticide ( not the contactor) replace cover and test unit. Best of Luck.
