Is there any way to play ds games on updated dsi

Of course you can play Ds games on the DSi. There is no difference from the game slots. The only differences are the screen and the Dsi has colored pictchat, a built in camera, and its bigger and slimer...

When you turn on system with a game in it. The screen blinks different colors

First, try a different game and see if problem persists. If it does the contact points in console may be dusty/dirty and will need to be blown out or you may have a bad a/v (audio, video) cable. If it doesn't blink different colors with another game then clean the contacts on the previous game

Genesis model 1, periodic static flashes cover the screen for an instant every 2 seconds or so. In other words, it "blinks" static. Color changes a little at this time too. Games play fine otherwise....

Have you tried a different TV set? this would narrow down your problem to either the TV or the console.
If you think it's the TV try unplugging all other inputs - unplug the aerial, DVD player etc and see if this makes the difference. (don't forget where all the cables go afterwards!)
If you're really stuck but own a computer, you are legally allowed to download an 'emulator' which turns your computer into a Genesis.
Then you can search the internet for 'ROMs'. These are files that the emulator can read like a cartrage.
Note you are only allowed to download ROMs of games you already own. Downloading other ROMs is illegal in most countries. Also be careful for viruses, some of the sites out there are a little dodgy.
I know this doesn't fix your problem but might offer an alternative solution.

When i play a game it is ok for awile but then the screen turns pink

It possible your tv is going out that sounds like a tv problem if a tv is on for a while, and if its old, the screen might change colors if there's different types of colors going through the screen. Otherwise it could be just the cable it self or the ports on the back of the tv

PS3 freezes...shows colored "specs" on screen.

This is a common problem with the PS3. sadly you cant do anything for it. The only think you can really do is to get your PS3 replaced cause sadly your PS3 has suffered dome physical damage for sure.

New system - no color on screen

the cable colors have to match the tv ones if you have different colors on cables then look for the label on the cables saying video or audio (red)=audio (white)=other audio (yellow)=video EXAMPLE if the cable colors are different than the tv then if the label on the cables say video and the color is blue etc. then you have to put it on the yellow putin on the tv no matter the color. If it dosent work then try holding the cables in many angles try pulling them or anything unlit they work get something to hold them up if that dosent work then i think you should buy new cables. PS2 Half Green/Half Black Screen on powerup

I have had this happened when the PS2 has heated up my TV's color was going nuts. The color needed for the different games is sometimes too much. Let the TV rest for a while, then the TV, game should be fine.
