First--do you have the restore CD?
If you do, you can put it in the CD drive and reboot your computer. The restore CD should run and it will give you options on what to do. If you want a total erase and restore, then choose that option (restore your computer to it's factory configuration). Be aware that any data you have on the hard drive will be gone. So will all your programs, so be sure you have the program disks and any serial numbers you need.

Once Windows is installed, you will have to apply all the updates and service packs to bring it up to date. Don't forget your internet security software!

This machine comes with a restore disk. All you need do is boot the machine with restore disk in drive and when you are reinstalling you can choose to format the Hard Drive, which will wipe anything that had been stored in the machine.

If your computer has a restore disk on it, only your have to do is hit F10 after boot and select the restore options provided by the sytem. If not you need a Win CD to make that operation to format and reinstall everything again on your computer

Emachine 3653 factory restore

You can use the Restore CD that came with the computer. The eMachines restore disk sets your PC back to factory settings with the original operating system and programs that were shipped with the computer. Doing so resolves many problems that can arise from long-term computer use, viruses, or the operating system slowing down.

1. To do a factory restore insert the restore CD then reboot the computer. When prompted, press any key to boot from the CD.

2. Select the option to "Reformat the drive to factory settings."

3. Follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall the operating system and original software that came with your computer.

4. Once the Restore finishes, you can re-install all the programs that you added to the computer as well as restore your files.

Reminder: Reformatting your computer erases all of your installed programs, personal documents, pictures and music. If you have the ability to, back up all of your personal data using a removable flash drive, external hard drive or DVDs before doing a Factory Restore.

I am not getting "set

That means your computer is infected with worms or trojan viruses. Try using system restore but you have to be in safe mode, all your data will not be erase or delete but some of your software will be erased. If system restore will not solve your problem the next step that your going to do is, you need to format your computer from scratch. That means you have to back up all your data or file(s) first before you will going to format your computer.

I have restore cd's but how do i erase evrything so i can start from scratch

Put the first System Restore CD into the drive.
Restart your computer.
Tell your computer to "change the boot order", to select the CD device as the _first_ device.

As part of the "System Restore", your disk-drive will be completely erased.

I believe I erased my sound driver for emachine desktop. Erasing junk and may have erased the driver as well. We can hear computer sounds but no volume for youtube, etc.

you can't erase the driver when it's already installed, anyway try installing realtek driver:
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsCheck.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=23&PFid=23&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false#AC
or you can do System Restore in Control Panel, go to Performance and Maintenance(category view) on the left select System Restore, restore computer to earlier time before you erased files.

Reset my computer, but keep windows on it

you could do 2 things-
1 use System Restore to restore the computer to the earlies restore point.
2 install a second copy of windows over the old one.
if you do that you need to tell Windows installation to not erase the previous version & don't use the old usernames of the previous install.

I own a Dell Optiplex GX150. I am trying to access the system partition that will allow me to restore back to my factory settings. This computer was purchased back around 2001 and did not arrive with any...

Contact Dell technical support to get the CD read the partition on your hard drive to restore to factory settings. It won't be able to work without one since it has to boot from the CD in order to get it to work.

System Restore

All your files are now marked as not in use. What this means is they could be "undeleted" if some went about doing so. Over time they will get overwritten has the pc is used more and more. If you are worried about someone recovering your data then you need to do a wipe of your hard drive using a program like DBAN. Then you'd need a recovery cd handy to restore the pc, since after doing the wipe the hard drive will be completely erased... Hope that helps.

If you have the discs that may have come with the computer, you can restore it to manufacturer's settings that way. If not, you can call the manufacturer and buy the disks from them.
