Question about Toshiba Satellite A105-S4254 Notebook

Ironically, 5 days after the paid warrenty expired (2 years and 5 days after I bought this piece of equipment), the A105-4254, it suddenly died on me! It always had a "loose connection" to the AC adaptor. While working at home, I always had to pull and yank the power cable everytime I used it to make sure the "blue power light is on" and that power is being supplied to my laptop or else it would indicate that it is being powered through the battery instead.I lived with it. However around Christmas, when it was the season to be Jolly, the power cable connection started acting up big time and I perpetually had to hold the powersupply cable connection to the laptop with my left hand and type using only one hand. This went on for a few days. And then, on January 17 2009, my laptop just died on me. Like dead dead.I bought a new powercord ($150)- nothing. I removed the battery and plugged in the AC adapter-nothing. No lights, no sounds, noth

First of all I would return the power cord and get your money back :-) Most likely if you weren't having to wiggle the wire on the plug itself it was not the problem. Often on laptops after continuous "pulling and yanking" what happens is the power jack on the motherboard comes loose. What your left hand was doing was holding the jack in the right position so the broken piece was able to make contact again.

It is not the power cord but the input jack itself. You will need to bring it to someone that can solder in a new connector. This is what they look like from the inside. Most local computer or electronic stores can make the repair for you. Should be around $50-$75. Make sure you don't pay too much.

My laptop was one year old last december. my battery stopped charging the same week it became one year and the guarantee expired. having no exta time, i took the laptop to the store 5 days after...

I would strongly suggest the good old battery 'hard reset'...

1.) Turn off laptop
2.) Unplug it from power supply
3.) Hold down the power button for a minute
4.) Plug it back into the power supply
5.) Power it on and wait to see if the battery icon is showing up and charging

This has resolved a few of these ghost battery issues on some of my clients laptops! If that fails, please provide the exact model number of the Gateway laptop and which operating system you're using and we'll see if we can't find another fix.

Hope this helps,
Joe

I don't know if it's the charger or the battery because the charger light won't turn on so my laptop won't go on.So what can I do to fix it I have a 2 year warrenty on it I paid for it when I bought it.

Have someone who knows how to use a volt meter check the adapters output - it might be just a bad adapter which I think is also covered under warranty.

This is a common problem with Acers but usually it is the battery and the adapter. Replace the battery as well as the adapter and you shouldn't have any issues. Surges can be the main cause for this or running the laptop hot has also been the culprit.

Dark screen on power...ok on battery ?

This could be 1 of 2 problems, or both. The power adapter may need replacing and/or the battery will need to be replaced. If you use the battery a lot you may have reached the 300 recharge cycle limit. New components can be spendy if they are not still under warrenty. Call your Tech support to see what they have to say. If the warrenty is expired you might consider purchasing the replacement on ebay. Otherwise, do some comparison shopping.

Since we don't have access to the extended service agreement you purchased, there isn't much anyone here can do for you.
It may not cure the problem but it would be a courtesy to file a report here:
Ripoff Report
You might also check the Better Business Bureau's national website to see if they have any better possibilities.
I also learned about the fine print recently; the extended service agreement I bought at Walmart started at the end of the original LABOR coverage which was 90 days, not 1 year (as does the parts coverage) so I really only had full extended coverage for 1 year and 9 months, not two as I thought.

0251: System CMOS checksum bad-Whats this? ToshibaA105-S4254

You can go ahead and press F1. If it happens again the next time you boot up or it just goes back to that screen try pressing F2 and then exit with saving.

This should solve your problems, If it doesnt you have something configured incorrectly in the CMOS.

If this is the case there should be somewhere that you can restore the defaults of the CMOS (as every computer is different I can't guide you through this process)

Have a great day.

According of your description, If you already changed the power suply, and the battery, and still no signs to power on, your laptop has some issue at power connector in the motherboard and need to be serviced.

Wal-mart's computer care is a scam.

I work for the Wal-Mart PC Care program. The PC Care program is free, it provides assistance in installing a year worth of virus protection. Anything beyond that is on a pay for fee service. It does not replace the original Dell warranty (which as pointed out) you were under. The little card board disk hold clearly states that you should save your receipt here. The receipt can be generated again at the local store. A customer can also purchase an extended service that comes info effect after the original warranty expires. It is not a bad plan, but it does pay to read and know what the plan covers. You still need to contact Dell as you are under their warranty. Pre-existing conditions are not covered by any extended service plan.

Laptop Gateway mx8711

Gateway laptop is really ****.
I bought Gateway MX8711 in March 2007, after 6 months i use it...the hard disk failed.
Gateway replaced a new Hitachi hard disk for me but not more than 8 months and it failed again.
Gateway told me that i have no more warranty because the repair warranty is only 90 days.
I bought this laptop and use it not more than 2 years, the hard disk was failed twice.
Usually Hard disk manufacturer provided 3 years warranty for the hard disk. The manufacturer year of the hard disk is May 2007....they should able to help because the har disk not more than a year being used...but they don't. This is really bad customer service and not fair to the buyer.
I will not buy any Gateway products anymore....i swear.
