Compaq Presario 2800 boot error

Ok, so I wanted to add more memory to my laptop. I had an old laptop lying around, so before I went to buy another memory I thought I would switch out one of my sodimms with the one in the other laptop. So I did, and I pressed F1 to save the changes, everything was going well until I got Windows Boot Manager screen, saying that:

Windows encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer.

This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external usb drive while the device is in use, or by faulty hardware such as a hard drive or cd-rom drive that is failing. make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer.

If you continue to receive this error message, contact the hardware manufacturer.

File: Windowssystem32winload.exe

Status: 0xc00000e9

Info: An unexpected I/O error has occurred.

So I press enter and I get a screen where I can choose the operating system. All I have is Vista so I press enter and it sends me back to the error screen.

So I say ''Snap!'' and I turn everything off and switch back to the old memory. Then I press F1 again and everything happens the same again!! Please help me!!

no this is not during an install. i just put the regular memory back in and pressed f1 to save changes. i'm not installing anything, just trying to start up my computer

  • stepht319 Jan 24, 2009

nothing happens when I press F8

  • stepht319 Jan 26, 2009

I don't think this problem had anything to do with the memory after all.  I finally fixed it.  But I had to reinstall the OS.  I believe it was having this problem before I even shut down the computer because it couldn't find another file it needed to install a program.  Then the computer froze on me and I became impatient.  This is where I believe I ruined it.  Because I pulled out the battery.  So, I may be wrong but I thought that maybe I just ruined the file.  I reinstalled the system and everything has been fine since.  I upgraded the memory without any problems.  Thanks for trying! (And even though I pressed F8 repeatedly, nothing happened)

I would have if I had thought at the time that it was important.  But I was at a loss, I'll know next time.

My compaq notebook presario cq50 210us is frozen on a black screen

Try the laptop on an external monitor, if it works ok on that, the fault lies with the laptop screen
If it does not work on that, the fault is with the graphics chip on the laptop

If it was working ok then suddenly died, check to see if you can boot to safe mode (F8)

repost the results

I want to add more memory and I need to know where the two available slots are and how to add more memorey to my presario v2000

the maximum memory you can add for your notebook is upto 1024MB DDR SDRAM (1 x 1024MB). I will provide you the manual where you find the instructions to remove and replace the memory modules.

here is the manual :

Open the above weblink and click on Compaq Presario V2000 Notebook PC , HP Pavilion dv1000 Notebook PC , HP Compaq nx4800 Notebook PC - Maintenance and Service Guide.

Then in the pdf opened refer to page 121 ie chapter 5-12

Hi i have problem with my HP COMPAQ PRESARIO V2000 laptop at first it developed 4 lines at the bottom of the screen then after a few days the light went off how can i solve it i need it badly i...

It could be due to Physical Memory (RAM) error. Replace the RAM and hopefully your system will be file.

Memory Malfunction usually provokes such kind of problem.

Bit if it is not the case of RAM and you are not able to boot to the system.

just download "Hiren's Boot CD", here si the download link

http://hirens.longcomputerservices.com/Hirens.BootCD.10.1.zip

Download the file and extract it with winzip or Winrar.
Burn the ISO image and boot the system using "Hiren's Boot CD" (Set the BIos to Boot from CD-ROM).

You can now easily backup your important data to a USB external Hard drive or to a Network location.

That's it.

Have a presario 700 and want to upgrade the ram. Where is it located and how much can I add. tried pushing F1 when starting to get the screen that tells you

  • Maximum Memory: 384MB
  • Slots: 1 (1 bank of 1)
  • Standard Memory: 128MB non-removable

  • Open the bottom plate of the laptop and read the current information on the ram inside. this will tell you the type to buy....try http://www.pricewatch.com to buy it

Installed more memory into Compaq V2000

The new ram you have installed, is it the same speed/type as what is already in the system?
Take out the new ram and leave the old in. Try and boot. If all ok, swap out the old ram for the new and see if you can boot. If the system does not boot when trying one of the above, you know it's bad ram. If the system boots with the old ram and the new ram installed seperately, i'ts likely that you have two different types of ram. Check your old ram and see what spec it is. Your new ram should be the same. Compaq do not list a four beep error on boot, but my guess is conflicting ram.

    Compaq

    Hi Tom,

Nice of you to do a direct "Ask Me"

Initially, the model is one I am not familiar with. But, a Compaq is a Compaq and a laptop is a laptop. Based on your description:
an IRQ and/or a hardware problem.

You could try (temporarily): removing the battery and using the laptop on AC adapter/charger only; removing any or all of the add-on cards; switching/removing any of the memories; removing connector of built-in touchpad and/or removing FDD/CD.

On all of the above, I would suspect either the battery or the touchpad more.

Incidentally, may I inquire where locally were you able to acquire the keyboards. I have need for two (2), both for Compaq Presario 2100s.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

Hard drive failure compaq presario 2200

If the bios is showing no ide, means that your ide hard drive is not being detected.
This can be caused by some motherboard failure, some bad cable connection or caddie connection or bad hard drive.

    Kees,

It sounds like you have fried motherboard. If that's the case, you have to get it serviced by a place your manufacturer recommends. Sometimes the cost can be greater than just buying a new laptop, so shop around and see what you can find price-wise.

Please let me know if this helps. Good luck!
