SOURCE: Belkin KVM 2 port switch

Sounds like its not detecting video on the 2nd port. Have you tried switching the computer on port 1 to 2 yet? If the problem moves then I would suspect that computers video card or the cable that connects it to the KVM. Let us know what happens or if you need more assistance.

SOURCE: Can's switch without it switching back to first PC

Sadly, it is probably the KVM as this particular model has a string of failures and is only rated 2 out of 5 stars on Amazon due to poor performance. :( http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-F1DK102U-2-Port-Switch-Cables/dp/B0001JXAQ6/ref=sr_1_1/105-6999807-3936431?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1187826004&sr=8-1 What I would do first is plug in Computer 2 directly to the monitor, keyboard and mouse with no KVM. If those work fine, it is probably not a computer issue; if you don't get video here, then it is a seperate issue with that PC. If Computer 2 is working, plug both computers into the KVM but switch the cables (plug Computer 1 into the KVM using Computer 2's cables). If Computer 2 shows up and can't switch to Computer 1, then it is the KVM messing up.

SOURCE: switching

The switching software that you installed on your computer when you installed the KVM includes an optional setting called "scan" that can be set to automatically page between the two displays.

This is most often used when the device is used for network or server status monitoring. If you configured that to switch every one second I can see how that would be very annoying.

Check the configuration of the switching software to verify that the scan setting is turned off.

SOURCE: New Computer Won't Switch Back

You should be able to press Scroll Lock twice and then the up arrow to go back. Have you tried that?

Can't connect to external monitor or to Sony bravia tv. When vga connected nothing happens at all on laptop but external monitor says " check cable" ( have tried another cable ). If connected in power off...

You need to:

- Connect everything with the laptop turned off
- Boot the laptop
- Use the Fn key plus F8 or F9 (I'm trying from a small picture of the keyboard!) to cycle through the external display options.

Did you try a external monitor to see is it works mine is doing the same think so I hooked up a external monitor and the computer is booting correctly i had to hit fcn and f5 for monitor to display. I think it might be a loose connection in the laptop.

My FN+F6 doesnt keep my screen on the laptop open

Change the settings from the display settings panel. (Right click on the desktop and go to display settings)
You should see 2 monitors graphically represented there.
You can make the monitor that is greyed out active by right clicking on the monitor, and selecting active.

Dell 1200 Inspiron OS boot problem

Two things you should try to resolve this issue: -

  • Check that the FN button on the keyboard to switch from the Laptop monitor to external monitor has not been enabled - these are usually 3 state switches (Laptop screen ON, External screen ON, Both ON) it is really easy to accidentally hit this without realizing.
  • If this works there is no need to try the second option.
OR
  • Try booting to safe mode - as the laptop boots up and you see the Bios summary screen depress the F8 button and you should receive a screen containing several options.
  • Select the option to Boot to safe mode.
  • If the laptop boots up ok then login to XP, don't be alarmed at the change in screen resolution.
  • Right-click My Computer on the desktop and select Properties - Hardware - Device manager
  • In the tree-view containing the different hardware select Display Adapters you should see your graphics card in there
  • Right-click and select Scan for Hardware Changes if it is ok the close and reboot as normal
  • If there is a problem here it implies the driver is somehow corrupted and may need re-installing from the disk that came with the laptop.

Dell Inspiron 6000 monitor display problem

Well it is most likely a issue with the Video driver as you are able to boot to the safe mode.I would suggest going back to the safe mode and deleting the present driver for the video from the device manager.before you restart the system just download the latest version from the support.dell.com so that you can reinstall it.Also check in the graphic properties which screen is set to be the defuat.Incase still not working i would suggest reinstalling the operating system before replacing any hardware.
