Question about Casio FX-115ES Scientific Calculator

Is there a simple away to permanently change the format that answers are displayed in from fractions to decimals, without having to press the S<=>D key after every calculation?

Re: Changing result display from fractions to decimals

Struggled with this and found answer on about page 19 of the instructions on the Internet. Answer also appear on paper instructions under: "Displaying Calculation Results...etc just under "Note" Trick is you must have calculator in "LineIO" mode For setting MODE see "Calculation Modes & cal. Setup in paper instructions.

Re: Changing result display from fractions to decimals

I believe according to the manual that the only way to display that IS to push the s/d button each time. I haven't been able to figure out a way to make that the constant display.

Getting Decimal Answers by Disabling WriteView on the Sharp EL-W516 Calculator

The Sharp EL-W516's WriteView display uses multiple lines to display mathematics as it is seen on a page. Fractions are shown as fractions, exponents as exponents, integrals as integrals, and so on. This makes entering calculations easier, and reduces the chance of errors.

At the same time, calculation results are displayed as fractions (or with roots or pi) whenever possible. Pressing the CHANGE button repeatedly will change these to decimal answers.
If you prefer to always get decimal results you need to disable the WriteView display mode. Doing this will make the calculator display like the Sharp EL-546W when in NORMAL mode. Answers will be given as decimals, but fractions will no longer look like fractions. In general, you will still need to follow the EL-W516 instructions.
Disabling WriteView

Press 2ndF and MATH to enter SET UP. If the fraction has just be typed in, press [SHIFT][=] instead of just [=] to get the result displayed as a fraction. However the fraction displayed will be the irreducible form of your fraction (equivalent but reduced to its simplest terms).

If you do not want fractions at all ( input and output)

Press [SHIFT][MODE] and select [2:LineIO]. This is the entry mode of the old generation of calculators.

The other IO mode is MthIO: In this mode fractions are entered as in textbooks, radicals are also entered as in a textbook. If by any chance you like this new IO format but just want the final results displayed as decimal, you can do your calculations in MthIO to get the result. Once displayed the result can be converted into decimal format by pressing the [S<>D] key.

If the result is already calculated and displayed, press the
[S<=>D] key It will convert a fraction or radical to decimal. This
is always possible. If the result is decimal it may be converted to a
fraction or a radical (Not always possible).

If the expression to be evaluated is still in the command line and you have not pressed the [=] key, you can force the result to be displayed in decimal format by pressing [SHIFT][=] instead of just [=].

More permanently. If you do n o care for fractions and radicals, set the Input/Output mode to LineIO. To do do press [SHIFT][MODE] to access the (SETUP) screen and select [2:LineIO]

I am not sure what you want because the mathIO mode IS THE ONE THAT DISPLAYS results as fractions.

You have two display modes: MthIO (with fractions, radicals) and LineIO (with decimals). Which one do you want?

To set MthIO press [Shift][MODE][1:MthIO]

To set LineIO, press [SHIFT][MODE][2:LineIO]

Concerning the scientific display mode.

Decimal numbers can be displayed in various formats, Fixed,Scientific, and Normal. If you do not want scientific display of results, just set the mode to Fix(ed) and specify the number of decimal digits. However if a number to be displayed (a result) is too small or too large IT WILL BE DISPLAYED in scientific format regardless of the mode you selected.

Once a result is displayed in fraction format, press the S=D key to convert to a decimal result.

Alternatively, insteaded of pressing the = sign to get the result, press SHIFT then =.

A more permanent way is to configure the calculator to use the LineIO mode. To do that press SHIFT MODE to enter (SETUP) and select 2:LineIO.
