Question about TRUE TSSU4812 Commercial Refrigerator

Clicking sound warm air

Clicking

My TSSU4812 is not cooling. It is blowing warm air (not cool air) - cannot tell if compressor turns on or not. Keep it unplugged for 10 - 20 minutes. Plug it back in. All fans inside and outside work. You hear a clicking sound. Wait about 20 or 30 seconds. And another click - wait 1 or 2 seconds, another click - this time like an electricy click. Wait another 30 seconds, same two click almost a second apart. And cycle continues. Is it the relays or the capacitor that needs replacement? Also, after leaving plugged in compressor feels hot - can touch for about 2 to 4 seconds without getting too uncomfortably hot.

Can I run any tests to confirm this? Thanks for the speedy response. :)

You're welcome. Now, there might be some loose wiring at the compressor. If you check and the wiring is burned, that pretty much says the compressor windings are bad. But the best thing that will tell you if it is bad will be to use an Ammeter. If the Amperage is high at initial start up, the compressor is bad. The dead give away is the clicking and resetting. That determines the compressor trying to start but can't because it is locked up.

  • aabbcc Jan 15, 2013

Compressor would also heat up if it were locked up? This unit has a known freon leak - needs freon added every 3 or 4 months. Last time freon added was couple months back, so could not be low on Freon. I checked - no loose wirings. Should I check relays, or just give up to the compressor being bad and get a new unit ($2400)?

  • Gabe Jan 15, 2013

That can cause it too. Being that it has a history of having to add freon every 3-4 months, there is probably moisture in the system. Therefore contaminated. Replacing the compressor will work for a while but moisture and contamination in the system will onlydamage the new compressor. Even though a new compressor comes with a warranty, contaminants and traces of moisture will void warranty

  • Gabe Jan 15, 2013

It might be a good idea to just replace the entire unit. Keep in mind that most compressor warranties on a new unit have a 5yr warranty

  • aabbcc Jan 15, 2013

Should I try adding more freon? I hooked up the Freon to the charging port, but it did not seem like it was "sucking" or accepting anymore Freon. Could be because compressor is not running? So desperately need this thing running!! :(

  • Gabe Jan 15, 2013

If the compressor is not running, It will not accept any freon. The compressor has to be running for it to properly accept and circulate the refrigerant. The only thing you can do is wait for the compressor to cool down(2-3hrs) if it cools at all. If not, it will have to be replaced for sure

You're Welcome. Glad to be of some assistance

I gave up - called a local technician to come take a look. The capacitor and relays are so wierdly tied in - scared to touch it and blow something up...

Oil filled heater won't heat up. It does turn on and the light illuminates but no heat. I't been in basement for the summer.

Could be that the thermostat is disconnecting because it senses too warm.

Plug the heater to the wall, turn on the switches.
Turn the thermostat knob all the way to min. It should make a click sound and the heater should not get warm.
Turn the thermostat knob all the way to max. It should make a click sound and the heater should get warm.
If the heater is still not warming up and/or you don't hear clicks, then the heater has bigger a problem.
With the cheap prices of the heaters, it is not worth trying to have an electrician check it out. Just buy a new one.

Breaker box clicks on then air conditioner still running but warm

When you say breaker box clicks and then warm air, are you referring to the actual breaker switch in your power panel, or clicking at your ceiling assembly? When the breaker trips, the air conditioner should shut down completely, is that what happens? The compressor kicking in and out could cause circuit breaker to trip. Did the electrician record incoming voltage supply, and what was it ? 115 volts?

Fridge is getting warm & making a funny sound could it be compressor?

It could be the compressor or the start relay. If you hear a click sound, then your relay is good and your compressor is shot. If you do not hear a clicking sound, then your compressor is good and your relay is shot. Also check to make sure that under operation even if the compressor does not work the fan should still be spinning, even if it is warm air. Please rate

Refrig is running, but freezer defrosted and food side seems to be getting warm. Always blew warm air from bottom front, now just cold air.

Sounds like the compressor is not running. Try unplugging for 15 min. to allow compressor to reset. If you hear a clicking noise you may have a bad main board.

Doesn't cool

Check your thermostat setting. the clicking sound is probably the compressor un-loading.

If you set the thermostat higher, the compressor will not turn off too soon.

it probably is low on freon....try listening under the hood for a clicking sound, while have someone turn the a/c on and off from in\side the car.....if no clicking sound then your compressor is not turning on....low freon.....
