Samsung CLP-500 output problems

Hi, I have a Samsung CLP-500 that is having some output problems. First is that the margins on landscape print jobs print inconsistently across mutlitple programs. I have seen it most in Excel, and some from a Crystal Reports document. In landscape in one document it is set to a .25" left margin, but is sometimes prints at the far left edge of the paper. I'm not sure if it has run off of the paper. In portrait the printer will cut off some text on the right margin, even though the margin is set to about 1". Reprinting will make it print correctly.

Another problem is that when printing a landscape document I have seen the last 1.5" of the data come out severely faded. Reprinting will come out correctly.

In trouble shooting the problem of the data fading I have replaced the black toner cartridge. When the problem repeated I put the old toner back in, as it was still only a couple months old with low page count. After swapping the old toner back in we noticed a faint line across the page lengthwise 2.25" from the top if you're looking at it landscape. The only thing that may acount for this line is an anomaly on the fuser roller (I don't know the right term for it off the top of my head).

I've tried removing the printer from the PC, re-downloading the driver, reinstalling and replacing the existing driver. I've also tried resetting the factory defaults thru the menu system on the printer at Menu > Printer > Default Set > Enter

I have also removed all of the toner cartridges, the transfer belt and the imaging unit, and used compressed air to dust them off. Using a flashlight I have visibly inspected those parts and the fuser and I have not seen anything that I would consider to be physically wrong with them.

Also, the waste toner tank is empty fwiw. The problems are inconsistent except for the small line down the page. All other problems are fixed with a reprint usually.

So to sum up, I have an occasional smear, a line down the length of the page, and most importantly inconsistent margins. Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks,

Brian

I wound up taking the printer to a repair shop. Initially the replaced the transfer unit, which didn't fix the problem, so now I'm arguing with them about the $200 non-solution they provided. They wanted to order a new mainboard per Samsung tech support, but if that didn't fix the problem they were going to stick me with that cost too, and then try ordering a new fuser. I purchased a new HP CP2025DN from newegg for $399.99. It's not the same print quality, but it's decent and overall if I can get them to take back the transfer unit it's a cheaper solution given the amount of time this user has been without her printer.

I need to dismantle the printer to find a roller that may be stuck and creating a dirty mark and very slight indent right the way down the page about 3/4 of the way across from left edge.

    Any ideas where to start?

I have found that removing the toners, and shaking them side to side, while keeping them horizontal, which seems to spread the toner for even distribution. This can sometimes fix the problems with fading prints. hope it helps.
Margins i think might be a problem with the wysiwyg of the program, some don't do it well, but also excel in particular has a shrink to fit page option, you may find the percentage not at 100%. you can also copy an excel table to word and print from that if it is driving you nuts.

Left margin cuts off

Try changing the left margin size in the page setup. Decrease the left margin size.

You could also try printing in Landscape instead of Portrait just to see if it captures the left margin.

Samsung slp 770 incomplrte session by time out

The Samsung CLP 770 produces an 'incomplete session by time out' if you switch off the computer originating the print in the middle of the print job (before the print is finished) OR if the network connection is lost between the computer originating the print and the CLP 770.
The printer may have printed the start of the print job but also recognises that it has not received the end of the print job information. It waits for a good while for the connection to be restored in an attempt to receive the rest of the print job - but if nothing comes then it times out.
The reason for this action is to prevent this situation effectively locking out any other computer on the network from printing while it 'waits' for the end of the print job.

CLP-550N problem with MacOS 10.4.7

Don't know if this would work:

from: http://www.macintouch.com/tigerreview/incompatibility.html

"I have one and have just finished preliminary testing. I have a CLP-550N and use the network port to connect the printer to our wired network. Using Bonjour (a.k.a. Rendezvous) does not work. I can successfully setup the printer, but it will not print. LPD, however, does work fine. You may need to reinstall the PPD files from the CD, or download them from there (sic) website." Brad Scheider reports: "Samsung no longer supports a CLP-500 driver. But I've found that the CLP-510 Driver works in Tiger and fixes many problems I had with the CLP-500 driver on Panther. Works great now."

How can I print without margins?

You may all you need to do is open the properties of the printer and check that there maybe a setting that says margins or you are looking for edge to edge printing. Check that then you should be able to print without margins. Also within MS word click file then page setup and check the margins in that as that can also cause your fault.

Hope this works
Thanks J
