DFU Mode is a "Device Firmware Update" mode, when you wish to Jailbreak your iPhone/iPad or update latest iOS release on your device, activating DFU Mode is necessary to bypass the standard restoring procedures and load custom firmware on your iOS device. So, to downgrade your iPhone from its current iOS version, you have to switch your device to DFU Mode.

Perform a factory reset from "dfu" mode. Turn iPad off and enter dfu mode. Then plug onto PC and restore with iTunes. Here are some instructions for any iPhone /iPad

Enter iPad DFU Mode

Here's what you'll need to do:

  • Plug the iPad into your computer
  • Launch iTunes
  • Hold down the Power button and the Home button at the same time
  • Keep holding both of these buttons for 10 seconds
  • After 10 seconds pass, release the Power button but continue to hold the Home button for another 3-5 seconds
  • When in DFU mode, your iPad screen will stay completely black. If you see an Apple logo or otherwise you did not enter DFU mode
  • iTunes will notify you that it has detected a device in recovery mode, choose restore option.

Stucked dfu mode iphone 3g

Open redsnow, click extras, and select Custom iPSW. A dialog window should pop up, go to where you have the ORIGINAL iPhone 3G 4.2.1 iPSW and select it. Press ok and It should then create a NO_BB iPSW in the same location as where the original iPSW is. Second step is to enter PWNed DFU mode. Open redsnow again, click extras and select PWNed DFU mode. Follow the onscreen instructions and you should be in PWNed DFU mode. Open iTunes and a message should show stating that your device is in recovery mode. Great now press ok, hold Shift and click Restore. A dialog box should show, go towhere the NO_BB iPSW is. Click it and press ok. Your device should now be restoring. Afterwards your device should turn on.

What is dfu mode and how do you do it

You enter dfu mode so iTunes can detect an iPhone in recovery mode and then prompt you to restore. You will lose all your files when you do this but if you have a backup in iTunes then you're good to go. To enter dfu mode, just press both power and home buttons simultaneously for exactly 10 seconds. After 10 seconds, release the power but keep holding home then wait until iTunes detects your iphone and prompt you to restore.

I forgot my iphone passcode.

Put the phone into DFU mode, then do a restore. When in DFU mode itunes does not recognize that the phone is passlocked.

My ipod is on disable mode and i can't disable it

If the iPod is in Recovery mode, you can use programs like ZiPhone or iNdependance. If your iPod is in DFU mode, then hold the home button and power button down at the same time to exit DFU mode. If the iPhone is in DFU mode because it was unplugged in the middle of a restore, then you'll have to restore the iPod, which will unfortunately delete everything on it.
