Question about Gateway 7330GZ Notebook

1 Answer

I have a Gateway 7330GZ Laptop and it had a worm virus embedded in the root directory so I completely wiped the OS (XP Home) and reloaded it off of the hard drive recovery. XP Loaded fine until the setup process and halfway through it just freezes. It has done this multiple times now. I am thinking it is a driver conflict and I need to find a Gateway XP program somewhere to download off of the internet. I have a valid key and everything. I would think it would be too specific to download from bittorent or something. Any ideas???

How can I remove a virus from a laptop

Honestly in my experience I wipe the HDD and starts fresh, some root-kits are very nasty to completely get rid of... in the past I have used this tool in XP with some success finding and identifying viruses... I usually accomplished removal by Googling the name if the virus the tool reports. the more common ones have tools to go in and fix it.

I have a scrolling bar on my laptop touchpad. gateway 7330gz. i recently had the OS upgraded and want to set the scrolling to work

Hello,

As you mentioned that you have updated OS, it is possible that the version of installed drivers for the touch pad are not compatible with the new OS.

I suggest you do is you go to the manufacturer's website and download the latest drivers. Most manufacturers offer an online support for the different drivers / software required by the computer.

This link is the direct link to download the latest drivers for your computer:Touchpad Driver

> Click on the link and download the drivers.
> Meanwhile go on Control Panel> Add / Remove Programs and uninstall Synaptics.
> Once the download is complete, launch the newly downloaded driver installation.
> After the installation is complete, restart your computer.

The touch pad should have now recovered all of its features.

Glad to help.

Need drivers, reloading xp. No disks available. Can't locate p/n to get the correct drivers from Gateway.

Hopefully you have not tried to reload XP yet.
URL=http://www.drivermagician.com/
Back up the current drivers with Driver magician lite.
CD/Floppy disk/Mem stick.
Then have at it. :)

Majority of the INF files are found under C:\Windows/INF
Even then installing OVER your existing XP the drivers should still be there. Unless you tell it to wipe and start from scratch.

Some viri and spyware programs can be so difficult to get rid of or cause so much damage. It is easier to wipe the system and start over.
If this is the case:
Ounce of Prevention is worth a pound of cure:
Spybot search and Destroy
Comodo firewall
ZoneAlarm Firewall
(Basically anything but the windows firewall)
Tip: Only run one firewall!!!!

AVG Free virus protection
NOD32 Virus protection (excellent but not free) 30 day trial however.

Good luck!

My gateway laptop 7330gz hard drive is locked and asking for passed word and it can't reboot.I try to reinstall windows using a different hard drive and when it reach format disk it keep shutting off.

Without that HD password, you are out of luck. Only thing you can do is install a new hard drive, and reload everything. You cannot even retreive any data you have on a passworded hard drive without the password.

Try installing a fresh copy of Windows XP Home and update your antivirus. Avast is a free antivirus that is robust enough to get rid most of high threat viruses.

Computer is infected with viruses

Blue screens as a result of infection mean the virus has corrupted the operating system. You can fix it by doing an operating system repair with your recovery or operating system disc. Depending on the virus, this may only be a temporary fix. If this turns out to be a temporary fix, then the sure way to fix it is to completely wipe the hard drive, completely reformat using NTFS, and reload the operating system, which I would recommend. If you have any problems during or after the reload, then the virus damaged the hard drive and it will need to be replaced.

My recovery CD (gateway 7330gz PC) are no working

I have the same problem with my Gateway 7330gz. My laptop got infected with spywares and it was so annoyed that I have to think about recover the system. So I did it with Gateway Recovery software. I chose the recovery option (press F11 when boot up)from hard drive since my dvd drive was broken. It went well but when it boots up again and Windows XP says detecting and installing the drivers and such, it was frozen haft way through. I turned off power many times to reboot but it kept freezing at that point. I search Internet for help and seen this post. Wonderful! I press F2 to go to BIOS setup screen, use right arrow key to move to Advance menu option. There I use down arrow key to select SpeedStep, hit (-) key to disable it. Then F10 to save and exit, hit enter for OK button. The system boots again but this time it was no longer freezing, the setup process went through ok and continues...I am so happy and type this message so it might help others with the same issue. Thanks
