Question about Dell Inspiron 1501 Notebook

2 Answers

Audio Problem i actually have the inspiron 1505, not 1501... for about three days now i've been having a problem with my sound card. i have a dell, run it on vista. when i shut the computer off at night, i have sound. when i reboot in the morning i don't. the volume icon says no device is installed. it's like gremlins came over night and ate the sound... so i go and install the driver for the sigmatel sound card. I've tried both the R171788 and the R171786. thing is, the wizard come on and wants to install and it says "Device Object not present. Restart System and Run Setup again." so re reboot and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. it's driving me nuts. i've run the directx diagnostics and it also says "No sound card was found. If one is expected, you should install a sound driver provided by the hardware manufacturer." i tried that too. but the same problem occurs. it tries to install the driver, tells me there's some error, i reboot and it works or it doesn't. can you help? regards, e day.

I had the sme problem wit my Inspiron 1501, and had the problem for over a year. I didn't have the media while I was away, so spent a year trying to resolve it. No help from Dell, goodness knows how many times I dowloaded drivers, nada. I once spent 47 days downloading a solution (very bad connection) and it didn't work. Came back, clean install, problem solved. Don't waste time trying to solve it... I've shed too many tears and even broke a finger in frustrion with a table... Reinstall, honestly, it's the best bet. (you don't have to lose your work)

Hi, In my experience as a Tech Support Agent, I've come to see several issues like this, when the best solution will be to do a clean reinstallation of windows, you should be able to do so with the Operating System Disks that came with your computer, as Dell provides to its customers, if you don't have them, you can easily contact them via Chat, at and ask for a copy, this should resolve your issue, be sure to back up your information.

My windows media player can only display video bout no audio why is this so and woh can it be corrected

first thin first have you tested your sound card if its working? play an audio cd and see if you can hear sounds from your speakers. if none, hen you need ti reisntall your sound card drivers. If yes, then you have to download codec for your media player. codecs are available at micorsoft website. you may use this link for reference. have a good day.

Dell inspiron 8100 drivers

your audio driver is not helpful for sound card which is you install on your pc.
plaese change this driver.
all windows have different driver for different devices.
so you install the driver compatible with window vista and sound card.

Re: Volume dropping in and out while recording audio.

I’ve never tried using an external USB sound card before but apparently they are available. As far as disabling your existing sound card, check in the BIOS (Setup Menu <F2>). It is also possible to disable under “Device Manager”. Here’s a link to service and owner’s manual for your model:
