Question about HEWLETT-PACKARD Pavilion dm4-1265dx Notebook

1 Answer

I have a HP DM4 Laptop and the LCD does not work, screen goes white, but the VGA Output works!!

Hi, the blazer and back cover were broken, I changed them all but once I hooked it up to the charger to test it, smoke came out of the left side of the laptop (LCD flex cable side) and then the screen went white and didn't show me anything. So I thought it might be the connections so I ordered another connection but still nothing! btw, the laptop works with external monitor, so hopefully the video card is working. even, I ordered another LCD, still same thing.

It is possible that it is the cable, but it is far more likely that the backlight in the screen is out. Obviously, with how new the laptop is, this is likely a manufacturing defect. If the laptop is under a year old or covered by an extended plan through a vendor, I'd recommend taking it to them or calling HP. If not, replacing the backlight on a laptop is typically expensive enough that it makes more sense just to replace the Netbook.

When you wake the computer up from sleep, eventually some of the windows files become corrupted. I recommend that a proper shut down be done when not in use. Now to try and address your problem, do a system restore and take it back in time before this started, if successful should resolve your issues.

Check your Display in the Control Panel. Maybe you don't have it set to extend the display onto another monitor.

Ahhh..the HP problem. This is a common problem and one that I am currently experiencing. The long and short of it is you will need a new motherboard or a new computer unless you are comfortable digging into this. I have two HPs with this problem and I am currently doing a reflow on this. I will keep you posted on how it turns out if you keep this thread going.

How would the pattern on the screen change if a pure blue screen were substituted for the white screen?

What can you do if the laptop LCD screen turned completely white? 1. Loose connection between the video cable and the LCD screen.
2. Defective LCD screen.
3. Defective motherboard (I assume the graphics card is integrated into the motherboard). Here's an example of a laptop with white screen. When you turn on the laptop, it starts but the image on the screen is completely white right from the beginning.

Most likely you still can use the laptop with an external monitor. Just connect the monitor to the VGA port on the back or side of your laptop and then switch the video output from internal to external mode.

On Toshiba laptops you can toggle between internal and external screens using Fn+F5 keys. Hold down Fn and press on F5 until you get video on the external monitor.
On IBM laptops use Fn+F7.
On HP laptops use Fn+F4.

It's possible that you have to use a different key combination on your laptop but you get the idea.

On some laptops, in order to be able to use the external monitor, you have to connect it to the laptop and then restart the laptop so the external monitor is detected by the laptop. In some cases the laptop screen may turn white because of poor connection between the video cable and the LCD screen. If you want to check this connection, you'll have to take apart the display panel because the connector is located on the back side of the LCD screen.

These laptop service manuals and disassembly instructions may be useful. Always check the video cable connection first. Reconnecting the video cable may fix your problem.

If reconnecting the video cable doesn't help, most likely you have a problem either with the LCD screen or with the motherboard. The best way to find out witch one is causing the problem is testing the laptop with another working LCD screen. you will need to connect to another monitor or your television to your computer with the vga lead monitor connection click start control panel display change display settings adjust resolution this may vary depending on your operating system you should see a no 1 and a no 2 with detect and identify keep an eye on the screen when you select the number tabs this may vary depending on your operating system when you select the no 2 tab this should be the extended desktop always click apply after making any changes or click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll to monitors right click select scan for hardware changes if you can get an extended desktop your monitor is faulty if you cant get an exended desktop

Need a hp part number for a lcd display for a HP Pavilion dm4t-1200 laptop.

I would like you to try using HP's Part Surfer.

1) Put your Product Number, or Serial Number in the Quick Search box,
(P/N = Product Number.
S/N = Serial Number.

{DO NOT give out the serial number on a public forum such as this. Only on the HP website}

2) Then click the blue down arrow on the right side of the - Select a country or region - box, and click on your country.

3) Finally go back to the Quick Search box, and click on the side arrow to the right.

Post back in a Comment as to your findings.
We'll go from there.

On the back of the LCD screen is the HP part number.

[ P.S.
You can disconnect the LCD display, and use an external VGA monitor, while you wait for the replacement LCD screen.

1) Laptop off, VGA monitor off.
2) Connect the VGA monitor to the Left side of the laptop.
( External monitor port. The VGA connector resembles this one,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:SVGA_port.jpg

3) Turn the VGA monitor on. Wait for it to 'warm up'.
Turn the laptop on.

If the display does not automatically go to the external monitor;
Press, and hold down on the Fn key.
Tap the F4 key.

(The VGA monitor can be a CRT monitor, {Looks like a small TV}, or a flat LCD screen monitor that has a VGA connector, and a VGA cable ]

Dell 1545 laptop with white LED screen on start up. Works fine when connected to external screen via vga connector. Everything else works ok. Broken & remade connections between mobo & screen = no...

If the display works fine when connected to external screen via VGA connector then then the problem is either with the LCD display panel ( which consists of the display panel and inverter ) or the LCD cable that connects the LCD to the motherboard. You could try to re-seat the cable connection on the back of the LCD panel.

Laptop LCD screen turned completely white
What can you do if the laptop LCD screen turned completely white? From my experience I can tell that this problem may be related to the following:
1. Loose connection between the video cable and the LCD screen.
2. Defective LCD screen.
3. Defective motherboard (I assume the graphics card is integrated into the motherboard).

It’s possible that you have to use a different key combination on your laptop but you get the idea.
On some laptops, in order to be able to use the external monitor, you have to connect it to the laptop and then restart the laptop so the external monitor is detected by the laptop.
I noticed that in some cases the laptop screen may turn white because of poor connection between the video cable and the LCD screen. If you want to check this connection, you’ll have to take apart the display panel because the connector is located on the back side of the LCD screen.
I always check the video cable connection first. Reconnecting the video cable may fix your problem.
If reconnecting the video cable doesn’t help, most likely you have a problem either with the LCD screen or with the motherboard.
The best way to find out which one is causing the problem is testing the laptop with another working LCD screen. Without this test you’ll have to guess because as I mentioned before this could either bad motherboard or bad LCD screen.
You’ll have to disconnect the video cable from the LCD screen and the inverter board. After that you connect another working screen and test video.
The original screen is white but my test screen works normal and I can see the image. After this test I can tell that the problem must be related to the screen.
After I assembled everything back together and connected the original LCD, it’s still white.
CONCLUSION.
In my case this problem is related to the LCD screen and it has to be replaced.

Lcm-17v8 monitor

Hi,
This is a problem with the cable that runs from your laptop to the monitor.
Or the VGA Output socket, on your laptop itself.

1:) Try using the monitor, on a different PC Or Laptop.
2:) Toggle The LCD/VGA Button on the laptop. ( This should change the display Mode )
Sometimes you Have A fn key, on the keyboard. Press fn And LCD/VGA.
3:) Check that there is no damage to the cable from laptop to Monitor.
If none of the above work, it,ll be the monitor itself. faulty panel or invertor board.

It sounds like your backlight in the LCD screen has died. However your system should work with an external monitor. When you connected up the monitor to the VGA connector did you change the settings on the system to output to the VGA output ?
Try connecting the monitor before the computer is turned on - then once booted hold the Fn key and press F7. Then pause then press Fn and F7 again to see if you can get the external screen to show your screen. It sounds like a dead back light though.

You still might have a problem with your connector. It might have a cold soldered joints. Try to power on your laptop with no keyboard cover in the way were you can have an access to the place where cable is connected to your motherboard then try to wiggle it a little. If your video is coming up and down, you have a cold soldered joints. Another considerations would be:
1. Your LCD cable
2. Your LCD goes bad
