Question about Texas Instruments TI-83 Plus Calculator
I plug in square root of 1-4/9 and get the answer .7453559925 and select Math/1. Fraction but the calculator won't change the answer to fraction.

The Frac command only works if the number can be expressed as a fraction with no more than three digits in the denominator. Since the square root of 5/9 is an irrational number, it cannot be expressed as a fraction at all. The calculator is telling you that the value cannot be adequately approximated as a fraction with three or fewer digits in the denominator.

When performing the calculations, put the fractions in parentheses. Then once you get your answer, press 2nd and Math (above the times button). Then press F5, MORE, and F1. It will have Ans Frac>. Then hit Enter and it'll change it to a fraction.

Ther e is no dedicated key to do that but ther is a command ToFrac noted as ->Frac. To access it use [MATH[1:->Frac].
Two ways of using the command.
1. You want to reduce a fraction to its simplest expression
27/48 [MATH][1:->Frac] [ENTER] gives the reduced fraction 9/16
2 You do not want your results converted to decimal numbers
(27/48) [x] (5/7) [MATH][1:->Frac][ENTER] multiplies the two fractions and gives a fraction as a result. 45/112
3. Your result is in decimal form and you want to cast it into a fraction. The conversion will be exact only for certain numbers. Results kept in fraction forms are more accurate than those represented as decimals.
Hope it answers your question.
