SOURCE: brothers mfc-210c

there are two option u can do. if you can't open the scanning program chances is that you haven't installed or you don't installed it correctly.... in an all in one printer you should install a scanning program that is included in the disk when you bought the printer...

the scanning program include the scanner driver that is needed for that operation....

Have you checked the back paper door?, the paper tray?, and the drum/toner unit? If a paper was torn out of the machine, you may not be able to see the piece that is still triggering the jam signal. You can also pull down the paper guide around the orange fuser roller through the back door by pulling it gently to the left.

SOURCE: my brother mfc 210c won,t scan or copy

I just called Brothers product support and found out that these machines WILL NOT scan or copy or do anything until the ink cartridges have been replaced. So there is no other solution.

How do I scan something?

The brother MFC 7400c is a sheet fed scanner, so you should be able to put the paper in the paper slot, and use the scan functions. Granted its connected to a computer via usb, and you run from the computer some kind of scanning software. But for ease and reference, I've included a link to the manual.

Hopefully that helps!

Hello,
To scan legal documents you need to set the scanner to legal. GO to Start menu / all programs / brother / scanner utility and set the size to legal.
Thanks,

Cannot scan legal size documents. The scan goes through but it will only scan the letter size portion of the document and drops the rest of the text.

You likely need to install the Brother Scanner Resolution Improvement Tool. The description of the download states:

"This tool will expand the maximum scanning resolution capability and allow you to scan legal size documents."

Brother 9840CDW won't scan/fax legal size pages from glass or ADF

Is a setting in the printer.
Go to start >Brother> start center> on top go to configuration. then it will ask you for a password. use "access" for the password.
click on general setup and you'll see document scan at the bottom.
Change it from letter to legal and apply.

Voila!

I have a brother MFC-240C Just bought it Can you give specific directions for scanning documents which I want to e-mail to others. Claude Campbell

I use "PaperPort SE" by SoftScan. I scan a document and then click on my "Outlook" icon on the bottom of the page to email it. The software came with a scanner I bought several years ago. However, it works with my Brother MFC 240CN, also.
If you want to download the Brother MFC 420CN manual "Software Users Guide" it will tell you how to use the scanner function. The link is: http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public/us/us/en/doc/manual_index.html?reg=us&c=us&lang=en&prod=mfc420cn_us&type2=-1&flang=English&dlid= (It's the fouth one down, and is 4.3MB in size). I hope this helps.

BROTHER MFC-8840D "Check Scan Lock" error message

I had the same problem. It means the scanner lamp is in the park position and is stuck. You need to lean the printer away from the sheet feed side and bump it on the side. This may fix it. If it doesn't turn off the power and remove the two screws that hold the scanner lid on. Then remover the other 6 screws located under the lid on the left side while the lid is hanging from lid open sensor cable be carefull not to drop the lid, break the cable or the glass bed. After removing the base screws you can set the lid on the scanner again while you lift the scanner bed exposing the scan lamp mechanism. Push it a few inches in the machine and close the lid. You can do a test by powering the unit on and hold the lid open sensor button located on the bottom left of the lid. The system should initialize and bring the scan lamp back to the proper position. Turn off replace all screws and your done. If it doesn't work the first time push the scanner lamp farther into the scanning area and repeat. Good Luck

Won't recognize legal size paper

I have a Brother MFC-8840Dn (full legal-size flatbed as well as document feeder). I use Windows XP Pro and a USB connection. I'm not sure my fix works with other Brother models or different Windows operating systems, but it's a way to start troubleshooting at least.

I've always been able to print legal-sized pages from word processing or spreadsheet programs and receive legal-sized faxes. But I never could make legal-sized photocopies or PDF scans. The image was always cut off at Letter size. The fix is a Brother Utility set-up setting:

*** Go to Start / All Programs / Brother / MFL-Pro Suite MFC 8840Dn / Scanner Utility. (This link may also be called something like Scanner Settings.)
*** At the "Maximum Scanning Size", select "Legal" instead of "Letter/A4".
*** Click OK and restart your PC for the new setting to take effect.

It's like magic -- I can now scan a full legal-sized PDF, whether on the flatbed or through the ADF. I also tried a compressed TIFF scan and it came out fine.

**** Make sure your software and/or Brother Control Center scanning configurations are set to Legal if that's what you want for the particular image scan. The Brother Utility setting simply enables the option of choosing the larger legal-sized paper, which then allows the full legal-sized image scan, You always have to set your software to make that choice, just as you would to make and print smaller images on Letter, A4, envelopes, etc. (NOTE: I always start scans through software on my PC, like Adobe Acrobat or PaperPort, and the Utility Setting fix is working fine. However, I just tried pressing the SCAN button on the front panel of the MFC itself with a legal-sized document on the flatbed and through the document feeder. I still got Letter-sized image scans. So, there must be another setting somewhere for starting scans directly from the MFC that I'll locate later.)

I was about to buy a different brand of scanner because of the frustration with legal-sized images. It's like having a new scanner now :) I hope this Utility Setting info helps you troubleshoot your legal-sized image problem.
