Get jets unplugged

Cleaning your Tub
There are several options for cleaning the piping on a jetted bathtub.
The reason you have a residue on the bathtub surface when you are done bathing is because there is bacteria built up in the plumbing of the jetted tub. In order to remove that and reduce the amount of "yucky stuff" coming into the tub when using it, we recommend a regular usage of a jet cleaning product about once every couple of months
Here is a link to the cleaning products I can find right now. There may be other out there that I am not aware of but I do know these products work well in all jetted bathtubs.

How to clean mold from jets on Kohler Spa tub

Mold on your jets can come from a variety of places but due mostly to the bacteria in the tub.
There are several kinds of cleaners to use in the meantime once you get your trim clean so you can prevent what you are experiencing.
Take the trim off and clean them in your sink. DO NOT put them in the dishwasher as it is too hot and will ruin your trim.
Here is a link to our site that has different options for cleaning the pipes and keeping the jets from getting yucky.

I hate my jetted tub! Can we convert it to soaker?

I was very unwilling to pay a contractor between 5K-6K for a re-model after I received the quote. After considerable thought, I have found a solution. The key is to know the Inside Diameter (ID) of the hole of the jet holder. There is a product by Cherne known as a mechanical gripper plug among other names. It simply plugs the hole by squeezing a rubber donut between to ABS plastic ends until the donut seals the opening. You need to measure the ID of the hole where your jets are and go to the Cherne web site. I choose the end of pipe design. Once you know the product number (mine was 270237 2"). I ordered it from Home Depot and use it's in-store pick-up. I choose to replace the wing nut with a 5/16" coarse thread nut. I choose to cover the outer surface within the "spokes" with sealant in order to lessen the possibility of germ pits and cover the outer cover of the gripper with the appropriate size metal washer. I then installed the gripper. I took a min-hacksaw and cut off the protruding bolt and glued a rubber washer over the metal washer so that the nut does not protude above the outer surface of the mechanism. All one sees is a plug with a rubber surface. Your cosmetics may vary, but the key is the mechanical gripper plug. I also had one return pipe that had a screwed in plastic cover. I measured it and got lucky. Found one on Amazon for $6. It is "Threaded Poll Return Line Plug - IG Pools". It has a rubber seal and the correct threaded male part. Now all holes are filled and leaked tested. It worked for me and is reversible. I hope this helps someone.

I have a walk-in jacuzzi-type bathroom tub. When the automatic blower comes on it sends out a mildew smell. How can I get rid of it?

First of all, after each use, refill the tub with warm water and run the jets for about 10 minutes to clear out any excess debris etc.

To eliminate the smell/mildew/mold. :
-Fill the tub to above the jet level with HOT (over 140deg.) water
-Add two tablespoons of low sudsing dishwasher detergent and five cups of distilled white vinegar
-Run the jets for 20 minutes
-Drain the tub and use a tooth brush or any small brush to gently clean inside and around all of the jets and nozzles, remove all foreign material you can from the areas inside (disassemble the outter rings to do so) and around the outlets. Be as thorough as possible.
-Rinse and refill the tub with CLEAN COLD water and run the jets for another 20 minutes.
-Drain the water and the smell and mildew should be eliminated.

To prevent future mildew build up/odors once a month fill the tub with HOT water (again) and four to five cups of vinegar (no detergent) and run the jets for 20 minutes. Drain and fill with clean cold water running jets another 20 minutes. If the tub is used very often you can increase the scheduled flushing of the system to every two to three weeks. The mildew/mold flourishes in the warm wet areas inside the jet tubing and nozzles. Diligent maitenance is the best way to make sure you're not bathing with any unwanted guests in your bathwater!

-Take care

I have the zuma whirl pool tub. the jets go on

This is an automatic feature to dry out the pipes and prevent mold. The next time you turn on the pump after leaving these tubs for a few weeks you get lots of black **** in the water and this is what this feature prevents. Sounds like the tub is working fine :)

Black come out the jets when first operating them

Didn't fully drain at the end of last year, that gunk was mold, rust and gunk that's been sitting in the piping since last year. Not really a problem just remember to take a closer look at the plumbing on your tub next year and get all of the possible places that water may hold drained completely.
