SOURCE: Maytag neptune dryer won't start
Hey all neptune stricken owners - I removed the circuit board which was darkened substantially in the resistor area, but the maytag repairman got no money this time!! . . . And the cold is no longer the problem it has been for the past couple of years. We replaced the 3 main capacitors(blue) and the cluster of four resistors(brown) - and voila - the dryer works like new!!! It only cost a few bucks ($.67, $.92 etc etc) as opposed to the $151 a new board was going to cost!

Unplug the unit and take off the cover where the cord goes in. You may have one burnt wire under that cover.

Bad door switch.
Bad start switch.
Bad thermal fuse.
Bad motor.
In that order.
Check each with a meter set to OHMs.

One of two things, gas valve coils and improper airflow are the most likely to be your problem. The solutions are discussed below and the Service Manual for a similar model is posted at the bottom.
It's likely one of the coils is opening a break in the coil as the coil heats up. This coil will shrink when cool and be able to run again. Replace All coils in kit number 279834. Take care not to touch or hit the ignitor or you will be replacing it also. It is VERY brittle.
Disconnect power and turn off gas before working on this dryer. Working on gas dryers is not recommended for people who are not professionals.
For air flow issues:
This is likely the result of an air flow problem if you are sure the gas system is working properly. Ensure you are not running the dryer in a closed room which would starve the dryer of air dramatically reducing the air over the clothes even if the full length of your vent is brand new. Next, remove the vent hose from the rear of the dryer and check for strong air flow at the outlet. If it seems strong enough then run a vent through a window or out into another room and do one load in this fashion. If this resolves your problem the blockage exists in the vent line outside your dryer and disassembling dryer becomes unnecessary.
If not, ensure you have seen and touched every inch of interior dryer piping and hold the lint filter up to the light to be sure you can see through it. Disassemble and clean ANY section of piping you can't get your hand into. The area below the lint filter tends to catch a lot of lint . Ensure the blower wheel turns when the motor turns. (Newer models may have the filter housing at the front)
Having performed all these actions will likely resolve the problem. Good Luck
