SOURCE: Kitchenaid Espresso maker no longer dispenses hot water from frother

by frother you mean it puts out steam ? if yes then I need to know how long you hold down the button and have you checked the hose in back to see if it has cracks or is kinked?

SOURCE: plastic "Turbo Frother steam nozzle" blows off metal steam pipe

Pull off entire plastic wand off by unscrewing the top plastic piece. Inside the piece that connects to the screw top you should see two o-ring type spacers. The top one should be hard pastic and the one beneath should be rubber. Take the entire unit apart and clean, making sure to put all pieces back in the way they came out.

To put back on, take the top piece and put it back on the metal stem first then put the rest of the wand back on and gently push it as far up the metal stem as possible and screw back together. If you don't have the rubber spacer this could be the problem since the wand really has nothing grabbing onto the metal stem except for the rubber spacer. If this doesn't work, order another wand:

SOURCE: My Delonghi Prima Donna won't dispense milk only steam.

I've just had the same thing happen to me today. The one thing I noticed was there is a broken rubber ring which appears to have fallen from around the milk spout.

I'm off to the Service Centre tomorrow so will hopefully have some good news shortly...

SOURCE: I have a Delonghi Magnifica

I purchased a unit second hand for my wife's birthday today. It's only 4 months old, got it home, tested it, same problem... No froth!

I've read all the posts here and all were very helpful troubleshooting guides however they did not solve the issue.

Understanding how the frothing mechanism functions is half the battle in figuring out the solution. It's a simple vacuum type system. No doubt you've read about checking the orings. This is definately the first thing to check however if this is not the reason then consider the following.

The larger of the white tubes that has the red and black oring inserts deep into its port on the tap. Why? It pushes steam past the milk pipe directly into the chrome frothing tube which causes a vacuum essentially drawing milk up it's hose creating the froth. What you can't see without further investigation is that on the underside of the tube centered between the red and black orings is a small hole. This hole is responsible for drawing the milk upwards. If this is blocked, and it probably is then no milk and no froth. Use a really small screwdriver to carefully clean the white tube both from the front and the little hole underneath.

So in conclusion. Any air leak between the red and black orings will prevent the vacuum required to draw milk up the tube and alternatively any blockage of the milk channel will also obviously prevent the flow into the frothing mechanism. Hope this helps.

Frother only blows steam not frothed milk

The frother is only supposed to blow steam! At least on any of the dozens of machine I have used commercially. You put the frother into your cup of milky coffee and it blow steam and air through the coffee and makes froth. Go to Starbucks, stand near the side counter and watch.

Edited to add yours in not a normal machine, it is a home replica of a pro machine. I suspect it needs cleaning. You can get milk cleaning tablets and liquid for machine that has an enzyme to remove dried or burnt on milk solids.

Here is your manual.

This might not be the problem , but sometimes , not cleaning milk frother tip properly , the tip gets closed with dry milk. use a needle and push it in the frother tip and see if there is a restriction. hope this helps.

Delonghi problems

Try filling both water and the milk container with the correct decalcifying solution - just slit the 500 ml that results from the 1:1 mixture and - without the coffee capsule - press the cappucino button. Instead of cappucino you will get the decalcifying solution running through the entire system including the connector for the milk container (unlike the recommended decalcification method where you use the extra nozzle). Good luck - worked for my machine which only produced steam but no milkfoam...

DeLonghi Perfecta ESAM5500 when trying to make a cappucino it wont **** up the milk any ideas thanks

Had this exact problem a few times on a cleaned well maintained milk jug top with an ESAM5500M. Delonghi 'repaired' it by sending a new milk jug frothing top.

It's caused by milk fat deposits, the frother part on the milk jug may look clean but deep inside it's not. I clean mine with pipe cleaners, detergent and hot water and still it wouldn't froth.

The problem re-occurs for me every 6 months or so. You could buy the milk fat remover solution to clean it. Personally I just boil the whole milk jug frother in detergent and the again in descaling solution, that's fixed this problem twice now, although I think it will eventually corrode the 'o' rings on the frother, still cheaper than buying a new frother part each time though.

If it still doesn't work after that, the only other reason for this problem I found mention of was caused by a broken rubber seal where the milk jug fits to the machine. It's most likely to be milk fat deposits inside the frother though.

Our PrimaDonna coffee machine doesnt appear to be takeing in any milk from the jug to make latte's or cappuciono's, is there any way of sorting this out ?

Most common cause of this problem is a blockage in the milk jug. First thing you should try is soaking the complete jug top in a quality milk line cleaner (available from specialist coffee machine retailers) for at least an hour and then rinse thoroughly. Then try running a fresh cleaning solution through the jug instaed of milk. Good luck and post again if this doesnt work.

There is no milk coming out of the frothing part of the Delonghi Coffee Maker, it just makes a noise and steam comes out.

If no milk comes out of frother, check the o-ring on the upper "plug" where the milk jar connects to the machine. There are two connectors; only the bottom one corresponds to the steam output while the upper one is a plug. Mine had a worn out o-ring on the plug, and this keeps the machine from frothing milk.

Frother not working

The frother does not have a vacuum, it uses venturi pressure to draw up milk through a venturi at the top of the steam feed. The milk side is clogged from not cleaning enough. soak in boiling water for a few minutes and try to run it in steam mode for a while... if that doesnt work, a light lye solution will dissolve the milk residue clogging it. neutralize the lye with vinegar drawn through after the clog is gone.

(lye will dissolve you as well as milk... use gloves and don't put your face near it while it's working.)

Frother doesn't froth

Does not seem normal! You should get plenty of steam for the frothing. Since the unit is new you should take it back and get a replacement. The unit needs to increase the temperature for steam, route the steam away from the espresso group to the steam unit and the pump needs to activate to create the high pressure. Any failure in this areas will create your condition. It also possible that your steamer is blocked but this is a new machine so this is unlikely but you should make sure that it is not blocked.
